The nation’s bourse opened the month of April with a loss of N67 billion, amid profit-taking.
Specifically, the market capitalization which opened for the month at N20.428 trillion dipped N67 billion or 0.33 per cent to close at N20.361 trillion.
The downturn was supported by investors’ portfolio readjustment ahead of first-quarter earnings results.
Also, the All-Share Index dropped by 128.39 points or 0.33 per cent to close at 38, 916.74 from 39,045.13 recorded on Wednesday.
The market loss was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; Lafarge Africa, Zenith Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Guaranty Trust Bank and NEM Insurance.
FTN Cocoa Processors led the losers’ chart in percentage terms losing 8.70 per cent to close at 42k per share.
NEM Insurance followed with a decline of 7.39 per cent to close at N2.13, while Unity Bank shed 6.67 per cent to close at 70k per share.
Regency Alliance Insurance dropped 3.33 per cent to close at 29k, while Livestock Feeds shed 2.60 per cent to close at N1.87 per share.
Conversely, Royal Exchange and UACN dominated the gainers’ chart in percentage terms with 10 per cent each to close at 33k and N9.90 per share, respectively.
Japaul Gold and Ventures followed with a gain 9.76 per cent to close at 45k per share.
Cutix rose by 9.31 per cent to close at N2.23, while Linkage Assurance gained 9.09 per cent to close at 72k per share.
Transactions in the shares of UAC topped the activity chart with 37.38 million shares valued at N370.01 million.
Transcorp followed with 25.93 million shares worth N20.88 million, while Fidelity Bank traded 12.6 million shares valued at N31.45 million.
Flour Mills traded 10.36 million shares worth N300.40 million, while Guaranty Trust Bank transacted 9.65 million shares valued at N289.61 million.
In all, the total volume of traded dipped by 2.54 per cent with an exchange of 239.42 million shares valued at N2.32 billion exchanged in 4,45 deals.
This was in contrast with a turnover of 347.17 million shares worth N2.80 billion achieved in 3,990 deals on Wednesday.

Audi has made important steps on the way to its debut in the famous Dakar Rally in January 2022. The concept of the innovative prototype for the world’s toughest cross-country rally has almost been concluded.
The first tests are planned for the middle of the year. Project management for the company’s factory motorsport commitments has been taken over by Andreas Roos, who was most recently responsible for the successful DTM program at Audi Sport.
“With the Dakar project, we at Audi remain true to our philosophy of using new technologies in motorsport for the first time that are groundbreaking for future road cars,” says Julius Seebach, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH and responsible for all motorsport activities of Audi.
“In our rally history, for example, this was the quattro drivetrain, and now we will test components for future electric drivetrains under extreme conditions at the Dakar Rally. At the same time, we offer exciting customer and fan experiences.”
“The Dakar project is a huge challenge for the entire team,” says Andreas Roos. “We have a tight schedule to implement our innovative concept. We are the first car manufacturer to tackle the Dakar Rally with an electric drivetrain. Everyone in the team is working flatout so that we are ready to go in time for the 2022 Dakar.”
The innovative prototype uses the motor-generator unit (MGU) from the current Formula E car that Audi developed from scratch for the 2021 season. Three motors will be used: “We will have one MGU on the front axle and one on the rear axle. A third MGU serves as a generator to charge the high-voltage battery while driving,” says Roos.
“Of course, we have to make modifications, because the desert has different challenges than in the cities where we are currently racing in Formula E: jumps, sand, the very long stages. But we can basically build on the expertise from Formula E and also from our Le Mans prototypes with the e-tron quattro.”
Audi is also developing the high-voltage battery in-house. In Formula E, this is a spec part from a supplier for all of the teams. The energy for charging the battery is supplied by the four-cylinder TFSI engine from the DTM. “This engine is incredibly efficient and state of the art in terms of weight and consumption,” says Andreas Roos.
“The important thing is: our drivetrain is fully electric. The TFSI engine is only used to charge the batteries on the special stages. The battery has to be charged while driving, as there are currently no other options to do so in the desert.” Audi plans to run fully electric on all the liaison stages.
“The Dakar is unique and one of the last great adventures in the world,” says Sven Quandt, who will be running the operation at the Dakar Rally with his Q Motorsport team, together with Audi Sport. “I’m convinced that a brand can gain a lot from participating in the Dakar Rally, especially if you choose an innovative path like Audi has committed to with the electric drivetrain.”
“A good partner strategy is crucial for success in motorsport,” says Julius Seebach. “In Q Motorsport, we have gained an experienced partner with proven Dakar expertise. We plan to present our driver line-ups, which are also very important, in May.”
The first prototype for the Dakar Rally is currently being built at Audi Sport in Neuburg an der Donau. The roll-out is scheduled for the end of June, followed by the world premiere in July. Afterward, an intensive testing phase is planned before Audi’s first Dakar Rally in January 2022.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday, 29th September 2020 launched the Framework for Advancing Women’s Financial Inclusion in Nigeria.
The Launch which took place virtually had 170 participants in attendance from partner institutions from across the world and was chaired by Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, the CBN’s Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability.
The Keynote address was delivered by the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development who was represented by her Special Adviser, Princess Joan Jummai Idonijie.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Phillip Yusuf Yila – Director, Development Finance Department of the CBN thanked all contributors to the Framework for their dedication and commitment and highlighted the ‘Power of Parity’ report by McKinsey which projected a $28 trillion addition to global annual GDP by 2025 from gender equality initiatives. He stated that the improvement of women’s participation across the agricultural value chain and closing the gender gap in agricultural financing were in the front burner of the bank’s development financing agenda.
Similarly, key partners like Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access (EFInA) and the Women’s World Banking (WWB) also provided insights into their roles in supporting the process of documenting the critical imperatives to driving women’s financial inclusion in Nigeria. This was followed by a ceremony to unveil the Framework by Mrs. Amina Umar, Head of the Financial Inclusion Secretariat (FIS).
A Technical Panel Session on efforts to drive women’s financial inclusion in Nigeria was moderated by Mr. Ade Ashaye, the Executive Vice President of WWB. Panelists included: Mrs. Ambah Hamda – MD/CEO, FSDH Merchant Bank and Chairperson of the Bankers Committee subcommittee on Economic Development, Sustainability and Gender, Mrs. Ronke Kuye – CEO, Shared Agent Network Expansion Facilities Limited (SANEF), Mrs. Ijeoma Nwagwu – Faculty Member, Lagos Business School and Gender Lead, Sustainable and Inclusive Digital Financial Services (SIDFS) and Mrs. Oladoyin Olawaiye – Component Lead, Sustainable Economic Development Programme (SEDIN), GIZ.
The panel session featured discussions on how financial services providers can better develop products and services suitable for women; improving the number of female agents in the field and its critical role in helping women build trust in financial services providers, the need for continuous financial literacy to build women’s capabilities, and the development of sustainable, gender-centric models to cater to low income and financially excluded women in the country.
The panelists were unanimous in calling for regulators to mandate gender-disaggregated data from financial services providers in order to inform better policy decisions.
Technical presentations were made during the launch, including a presentation on the Assessment of Women’s Financial Inclusion in Nigeria, delivered by Mrs. Ashley Immanuel – Ag. Mi MIX FOLD debuts the Surge C1 processor – a professional image processing chip developed by Xiaomi. The product of two years of development and RMB 140 million in R&D investment, this chip provides exceptionally high performance while occupying low CPU and storage space. This enables it to service an improved 3A algorithm and low-light focus capabilities for more accurate auto focus, auto exposure and auto white balance, significantly improving image quality.
Mi MIX FOLD is also the world’s first smartphone with Liquid Lens technology, opening the era of bionic photography. The liquid lens uses the principle of human eye bionics, forming a lens-like structure with a transparent fluid wrapped in film, very different from traditional optical lenses. The radius of curvature of the spherical surface can be accurately changed thanks to a high-precision motor based on Xiaomi’s self-developed technology, which allows for 3X optical zoom, up to 30X telephoto, and a minimum focus distance of 3cm.
