Nestlé is fulfilling the wishes of plant-based fans around the world by launching a vegan KitKat in 2021.

Alexander von Maillot, Head of Confectionery at Nestlé, said:

“One of the most common requests we see on social media is for a vegan KitKat, so we’re delighted to be able to make that wish come true. I can’t wait for people to be able to try this amazingly tasty new KitKat. This is a product for everyone who wants a little more plant-based in their life!”

The new vegan KitKat – called KitKat V – will be launched later in the year in several countries across the globe. It will only be available through the KitKat Chocolatory and selected retailers, to test the opportunity for a wider roll-out.

KitKat V was developed by chocolate experts in Nestlé’s confectionery research and development centre in York, UK, the original home of KitKat. They worked hard to make a vegan version that would live up to the high expectations of KitKat lovers everywhere.

Louise Barrett, Head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Center in York said,

“Taste was a key factor when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat. We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat.”

Nestlé is helping people embrace a more plant-based diet, with options across its wide range of food and beverages.

The company has already launched plant-based alternatives to dairy made from rice, oat, soy, coconut, pea and almonds across categories. Examples include non-dairy ice cream, coffee creamers, rice- and oat-based drinks, pea-based beverages, plant-based cappuccinos and lattes, a vegan condensed milk alternative, as well as a range of non-dairy cheese to complement existing plant-based burgers.

Surveys have shown that people are interested in exploring more plant-based foods across different categories.

As Alexander von Maillot added:

“There is a quiet food revolution underway that is changing how people eat. We want to be at the forefront of that, championing the discovery of plant-based food and beverages.

What better way to do that than offering a vegan version of one of our most famous and much-loved brands? The new KitKat V means chocolate lovers now have a great plant-based option when they have a break.”

KitKat V is certified vegan, and made from 100% sustainable cocoa sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance. It follows other recent innovations from KitKat, including KitKat Ruby and KitKat Chocolatory Cacao Fruit Chocolate, using the first chocolate made entirely from the cocoa fruit.

US Mission Shares Photos of Ikun Dairy Farm in Ekiti State

On Monday, the United States Mission in Nigeria shared photos of the Ikun dairy farm in partnership with Promasidor Nigeria Limited at a ranch in Ekiti State.

In a tweet, the mission shared photos of cows breeding on the farm and added the caption, “U.S. Dairy Milk Cows in Ekiti State!”.

Ikun dairy farm plans to reach 10,000 litres of milk daily with cows from the USA. A great collaboration with Consulate Lagos that helps Nigeria grow and diversify its economy.

Located in Ikun-Ekiti, in Moba Local Government Area, Ikun Dairy Farm spans across 1,000 hectares of land area and was established in the early 1980s with hundreds of fattened cows as an integrated agro-allied farm to boost the state’s economy.

The pact was sealed on behalf of the partners by Fayemi and the Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Anders Einarsson in July 2019 in Abuja for the utilisation of the farm for milk production.

The partnership deal attracted a new investment of $5 million into Ikun Dairy Farm, which would be used to purchase equipment, provide the appropriate herd of cattle, and develop an out-grower scheme for providing feed for the cattle.

The partnership deal prompted a series of visits to Ekiti and Ikun Dairy Farm. The management of Promasidor Nigeria embarked on an inspection of facilities at the farm for revitalisation as part of the partnership agreement. This was done in furtherance of the pact signed.

Moët & Chandon Partners Yoon For Its First-Ever Global Product Collaboration

Moët & Chandon is thrilled to introduce Yoon, creative director of fashion label AMBUSH, as the first-ever artist to collaborate with the Maison on a global limited edition. Drawing on her disruptive creativity, Yoon has redesigned the iconic Moët Impérial & Nectar Impérial Rosé champagne bottles.

In an audacious step forward, Moët & Chandon has offered a unique platform to Yoon, a Tokyo-based creator and a rising star among a new generation of innovative designers, to bring her creative vision and modern sensibility to this collaboration.

The Maison’s choice of the co-founder and creative director of the fashion label, AMBUSH, was driven by the recognition of Yoon’s pioneering spirit as a “rule-breaker” who shares with the House, profound respect for time-honoured traditions of craftsmanship and transmission of know-how, and a mutual desire to put contemporary creation in the service of preserving nature.

The partnership between Moët & Chandon and Yoon is particularly momentous because it is the first time in 152 years that the iconic bottle of Moët Impérial, the House’s signature champagne born in 1869, has been redesigned by an artist.

Injecting her minimalist aesthetics into the redesign, Yoon has changed the gold neck of the bottle to a deep shade of black, contrasting it with a new embossed label in white, to produce an eye-catching design that suggests a blank slate, like a window onto a future filled with possibilities for those who dare step forward.

“We are thrilled with this partnership with Yoon because it brings a disruptive freshness to the centuries-old heritage of Moët & Chandon, and aligns with our own commitment to preserving nature to ensure a bright future for the next generation,” says Benoît Gouez, Cellar Master of Moët & Chandon.

“I was thrilled to be given carte blanche to re-design the bottle of Moët Impérial. It was a great challenge given its recognizable and iconic codes, but I also saw it as a great opportunity to bring my own aesthetics to this iconic champagne,”says Yoon, co-founder and creative director of AMBUSH.

“On my visit to Epernay, I saw the devotion of the people at Moët & Chandon to nature and to their precious terroir. This inspired me to select the World Land Trust to receive the support of the House so that together we could help preserve other terroirs around the world.”

In line with a tradition of giving that has made the greatness of the House since 1743, Moët & Chandon will donate a portion of profits from the sale of limited-edition Moët & Chandon x AMBUSH bottles to the World Land Trust, an international conservation charity that protects threatened natural habitats.

The mission of World Land Trust is to support local conservation partners, like Fundación Jocotoco in Ecuador, in their efforts to halt the destruction of ecosystems and to protect habitats where rare and endangered species still survive.

“We are grateful for Moët & Chandon’s generosity in helping us preserve the Canandé Reserve in the Ecuadorian Chocó Forest, a place as biodiverse as the Amazon rainforest but far more threatened,” says Jonathan Barnard, CEO of World Land Trust.“Only 2 percent of this forest remains today, still inhabited by 10 percent of animal species found nowhere else on the planet.

The support from the Moët & Chandon x AMBUSH collaboration will have a direct impact on stopping the deforestation of the Chocó, not just for the sake of its fragile species, but also to combat one of the causes of climate change.”

The limited-edition bottle of Moët Impérial in collaboration with Yoon is filled with the House’s flagship champagne defined by a bright fruitiness, a seductive palate and an elegant maturity, all distinctive characteristics of Moët & Chandon’s blends.

Its assemblage is designed to mirror the richness and diversity of the Champagne region’s vineyards, structured with a slight dominance of Pinot Noir, textured by Meunier and enhanced by the freshness of Chardonnay.

The Moët & Chandon x AMBUSH limited edition is available at ultra-selective department stores, some of the trendiest lounge bars, chic hotels and select wine stores, in Amsterdam exclusively sold in De Bijenkorf.

5 Questions About Nigeria’s Road to Recovery

0

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed Nigeria at a critical juncture. The country entered the crisis with falling per capita income, high inflation, and governance challenges.

Policy adjustments and reforms designed to shift the country from its dependence on oil and to diversify the economy toward private sector-led growth will set Nigeria on a more sustainable path to recovery.

5 Questions About Nigeria’s Road to Recovery Brandspurng

The IMF’s latest economic assessment of Africa’s largest economy recommends exchange rate reforms and strengthened efforts to increase government revenues.

What is the economic outlook for Nigeria in 2021 and beyond?

Nigeria’s recovery is expected to be weak and gradual under current policies. Real GDP growth in 2021 is expected to turn positive at 1.5 percent. Real GDP is expected to recover to its pre-pandemic level only in 2022.

The near-term outlook is subject to downside risks from pandemic-related developments with Nigeria experiencing a second wave.

Over the medium term, a subdued global recovery and decarbonization trends are expected to keep oil prices low and Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries quotas in place, restricting oil-related activities, fiscal revenues, and export proceeds. Non-oil growth is also expected to remain sluggish, reflecting inward-looking policies and regulatory uncertainties.

How can Nigeria’s movement toward a unified exchange rate and greater flexibility help with the recovery?

The current system creates uncertainties for the private sector because of multiple exchange rates and non-transparent rules for foreign exchange allocation. Unifying the various rates into one market-clearing rate would establish policy credibility.

Sustained premiums in the parallel market and unmet foreign exchange demand indicate the need for further adjustment in the exchange rate to reduce the gap between supply and demand.

An appropriately valued exchange rate and a clear exchange rate policy would also help instil confidence and private sector-led recovery. Policy clarity is also important to attract larger capital inflows, including foreign direct investments, which have dropped significantly in recent years and successful diversification.

Five Questions About Nigeria’s Road to Recovery BRandspurng

How can the government raise more revenues to ensure a sustainable fiscal position?

Nigeria has one of the lowest revenue levels as a share of GDP worldwide. A large share of revenues is spent on the country’s public debt service payments, leaving insufficient fiscal space for critical social and infrastructure spending and to cushion an economic downturn.

In this context, mobilizing revenues through efficiency-enhancing and progressive measures is a top near-term priority. Revisiting tax exemptions and customs duty waivers, increasing and broadening the base for excise taxes, developing a high-integrity taxpayer register, enhancing digital infrastructure, and improving on-time filing and payment are important measures.

Once economic recovery takes root, Nigeria will need to increase the value-added tax rate to at least 10 percent by 2022 and 15 percent by 2025—the average in countries belonging to the Economic Community of West African States—to create effective fiscal space.

Five Questions About Nigeria’s Road to Recovery BRandspurng

Why is economic diversification important for Nigeria?

Nigeria’s export structure has not fundamentally changed over the decades, with hydrocarbon products still accounting for 90 percent of the country’s exports today as they did in the 1970s. Successful economic diversification requires trade openness and competitive discipline.

The experience of Malaysia, Indonesia, and to some extent India has shown that a shift toward export-oriented industrialization can boost GDP. The limited gains from inward-oriented policies in terms of creating jobs and improving living standards suggest that Nigeria needs to change course.

To accommodate a growing number of young people entering the labour market, Nigeria will need to create at least 5 million new jobs each year over the next decade. Based on the experience of other countries, embracing more open trade and competition policies would help diversify the economy and reinvigorate growth, particularly as the African Continental Free Trade Area takes effect.

Five Questions About Nigeria’s Road to Recovery BRandspurng

What transparency measures has Nigeria put in place to ensure emergency spending is going toward its intended use?

The authorities have adopted measures to facilitate tracking and reporting of emergency spending. The government has created new budget lines with monthly expenditure information on emergency funding, which are posted on the Ministry of Finance’s Transparency Portal, although users have found it difficult to access the data.

The Bureau of Public Procurement has issued guidelines on COVID-19 emergency fund use, and the Nigeria Open Contracting Portal has been publishing-related procurement contracts, although some contract details on beneficiary ownership are yet to be completed.

Going forward, Nigeria needs to further embrace transparency reforms by expanding the monitoring and reporting of all public spending, as well as ensuring easy public access to spending data.

COVID-19 Pandemic Accelerates Adoption of Mobile Video Services

15th February 2021: A new study from Juniper Research has found that the number of mobile video calling services reached 1.8 billion globally in 2020; rising from 1.2 billion in 2019. This represents a growth of 50% over 12 months, as the COVID-19 pandemic fuelled the need for remote communication services.

The study, Mobile Voice & Video Calling: Operator Strategies, Vendor Opportunities & Market Forecasts 2021-2025, predicts that the number of mobile video calling service users will continue to grow; reaching 4.5 billion users by 2025, representing 50% of global mobile subscribers.

Capitalising on the Growth of Mobile Video Calling

The report identified North America and Europe as two regions that will experience considerable uptake of mobile voice and video calling solutions over the next four years.

By 2025, over 70% of mobile subscribers are anticipated to use mobile video calling solutions in these regions; owing to high smartphone ownership and the ubiquitous availability of video calling services.

The research recommends the integration of mobile voice and video calling services into smart speakers to maximise service value.

Research co-author George Crabtree remarked,

Innovation in the mobile voice and video space will come from consumer devices beyond smartphones, enabled by the IP-based nature of video calling services. This provides the perfect platform for the development and rollout of new video calling services over the next four years.”

VoLTE Users to Exceed 5.5 billion by 2025

The research also predicts that the global number of VoLTE connections will reach 5.5 billion by 2025; rising from 3.3 billion in 2021.

This growth of 60% over the next four years will be accelerated by increasing adoption of 5G subscriptions by mobile subscribers, as VoLTE services are included in 5G standards. The report recommends that increasing the level of virtualisation within core networks should be considered a priority for operators to handle increasing VoLTE traffic.

Unique Relaxation Techniques from All Around the World

With how stressful these past few months have been, it is becoming increasingly necessary for us to engage in activities that can help boost the mind and, at the same time, relieve stress. Fortunately, there are a lot of ways this can be done.

For instance, certain Healthy Movements and Exercise can help keep you mentally satisfied. These include aerobic exercises, cycling, dancing to music, swimming, and walking. Aside from exercise, other practises like journaling, colouring, taking long bubble baths, and practising kind self-talk can also help induce relaxation.

But different areas of the world have their own ways of doing things, and in this article, we’ll take a look into how the Indians, Japanese, and Native American tribes alleviate the stresses of everyday life.

India’s laughter yoga

Unique Relaxation Techniques from All Around the World Brandspurng

Indians are strong believers of the adage ‘laughter is the best medicine’ and perhaps this is the reason why they have laughter yoga. This practice, also known as hasya yoga, is a modern exercise that involves prolonged voluntary laughter. Laughter yoga is anchored on the belief that laughter (voluntary or spontaneous) can present different health benefits.

Mental Floss’ list of scientific benefits associated with laughter includes lowered blood pressure, a boosted immune system, and reduced symptoms of anxiety and other negative emotions. Pain relief and improved cardiovascular health are also other advantages of laughing.

To reap the positive effects of laughing, Best Fit Magazine explains that this relaxing activity is often performed in groups for 30 minutes, at most.

Japan’s onsen culture

Unique Relaxation Techniques from All Around the World Brandspurng

To escape the hustle and bustle of city life, along with the stresses that it brings, Japanese people usually spend a night or two in nearby onsens or hot springs. In ExpatBets’ guide to the best onsens in Japan, it is detailed how this tradition is often practised as a way of relaxing the mind and the body.

And true enough, Tokyo City University professor Hayasaka Shin’ya explains that soaking in hot springs can help relax the body by alleviating pain. He further notes how this popular Japanese activity can also improve the symptoms of backache, stiff shoulders, and other chronic aches and pains.

Aside from helping manage pain, the short trip to the nearest hot spring can also induce calm and ensure a good night’s sleep, especially if taken two to three hours before bedtime.

Native American’s ritual of smudging

Unique Relaxation Techniques from All Around the World Brandspurng

Smudging, or burning herbs, is a long-standing practise that has been in existence since time immemorial. This ancient practice is making quite the comeback as of recent because of the possible health benefits it can offer.

Healthline’s article on the effects of burning sage emphasises how this activity can purify your surroundings, relieve the symptoms of some health conditions, boost cognition and heighten energy levels. Depending on the kinds of herbs that were burned, smudging can also soothe stress, improve the quality of your sleep and raise your overall mood.

Since smudging is a highly sacred practice among Native Americans, it would be best to take the time to learn it in its entirety. It would also be a good idea to buy sage from local and Native American growers, instead of brands that know little to nothing about the history of smudging.

Participating in a session of laughter yoga, soaking in hot springs and smudging are only some of the ways people from all over the globe manage stress and induce relaxation.
