PalmPay Hits 10 Million User Milestone In Nigeria

PalmPay, a fintech innovator aiming to make digital payment more accessible and flexible, announced that it has reached 10 million users in Nigeria. This represents a doubling in its user base within just six months and puts its customer numbers in the same league as major institutions only 3 years after the company launched in the market.

The fintech, which operates under a Mobile Money Operator license from the Central Bank of Nigeria, has gained significant traction with its payment’s app and nationwide agency banking network. Its proposition of instant financial account creation, fee-free bank transfers and cashback rewards on airtime and bill payments has appealed to Millennial and Gen-Z consumers, who are looking for more affordable banking options and prefer the convenience of a digital-first service.

Nowadays PalmPay is processing millions of transactions a day. And around 20% of the company’s customer base report that the PalmPay app was their first financial account, demonstrating that the Mobile Money Operator is contributing to driving progress towards financial inclusion targets in Nigeria, where 36% of the population remains unbanked.

Nigerians without smartphones can visit one of PalmPay’s 200,000 mobile money agents across the country, who can transact on their behalf or issue an innovative QR card that can be used to hold a balance. Consumers can also use PalmPay agents to deposit cash to their PalmPay accounts and to withdraw money using their debit cards through PalmPay-branded POS machines.

“We are delighted to be able to celebrate this growth milestone and are proud of PalmPay’s track record of making cutting-edge financial services accessible to every Nigerian – including the unbanked.”, said Mr Chika Nwosu, Managing Director, PalmPay Nigeria, “The pandemic has accelerated the shift from cash to digital payments and we are looking forward to continuing to work together with regulators and our partners to innovate to meet the financial needs of consumers.”

“Our significant growth in Nigeria demonstrates PalmPay’s ability to innovate to meet the financial needs of consumers, and we are looking forward to replicating this success as we scale in more markets across Africa.” said Sofia Zab, PalmPay Global CMO.

Orange Steps Up Digitalization Of Its Offers In Africa And Middle East

0

Orange  wanted to meet its customers’ expectations by picking up speed on its digital offers in several countries in Africa and the Middle East. Many customers are more interested in digital, a trend that has gained momentum due to the Covid crisis. For example, Orange mobile data traffic increased 30% between 2020 and 2021.

People want to see and hear each other when they are apart, stay in contact with their communities through social media, share and express themselves, trade, access online knowledge, make their lives easier and be entertained.

In this context, Orange is adapting and transforming its organization to create a “Digital Factory” that will develop and extend its digital offer in several countries.

  • The “My Orange” multi-service mobile app to easily manage mobile and landline contracts

Launched in 2016, this free application is available on iOS, Android and as a web app in 17 countries and allows you to subscribe to voice and data offers, transfer money, view your balance, etc.

Since 2021, it has been enhanced with the “My Place” service, available in 8 countries, which provides entertainment content (films and series, games, music, news, etc.).

This practical and customizable app now has over 13.5 million users.

  • E-shops to buy your mobile online

In 12 countries, customers can order their mobile and various telecoms and internet accessories online. And in March 2022, Orange Cameroon created a Business space that professional customers can use to access a catalog of dedicated offers.

  • 100% digital offers to meet users’ growing needs

In Côte d’Ivoire, in June 2021 Orange launched a fiber offer exclusively for online subscriptions. This convergent fiber offer, for households and professionals, enables you to place an order without going to a branch or contacting a sales representative. The customer gets their installation in under 72 hours with just one visit from the Orange technical team for the delivery and installation.

In Jordan, Orange launched “Jood” in June 2022, which is a new offer providing more data, with a 100% digital customer journey, from ordering to delivery, including all assistance.

Similar offers are planned soon in Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal.

  • Chatbots: from assistance during a purchase to ID validation

To enhance its customer relations channels, Orange has developed 21 bots available in 11 countries in Africa and the Middle East: Morocco, Jordan, Senegal, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Tunisia, Mali.

These bots can be accessed via the web portal, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Twitter and the My Orange app. Initially designed for information purposes (viewing your offer, voice and data balance, etc.), chatbots are now moving towards transactional services (money transfers, top-ups, etc.). In Guinea, Cameroon and Jordan you can now buy products and services via the chatbot in addition to receiving customer assistance.

Orange also plans to develop voicebots in local languages to address the needs of all populations.

Finally, in Cameroon there is a WhatsApp chatbot that makes it easier to collect customers’ ID documents by taking a photo using their smartphone.

This digitalization of offers has also been applied to the B2B segment to develop “self-care” tools for professional customers.

Orange is present in 18 countries in Africa and the Middle East, and has 139 million customers as at June 30, 2022. With €6.4 billion in turnover in 2021, Orange MEA is the Group’s main growth region. Orange Money, with its mobile-based money transfer and financial services offer is available in 17 countries and has over 70 million customers. Orange, a multi-service operator, benchmark partner of the digital transformation, provides its expertise to support the development of new digital services in Africa and the Middle East.

NetApp and VMware Strengthen Global Partnership to Help Customers Modernize with Multi-Cloud

New and innovative solutions help organizations to cost-effectively and seamlessly migrate and modernize enterprise workloads while optimizing and accelerating traditional and modern applications on-premises.

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 31 August 2022 – NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP), a global, cloud-led, data-centric software company and VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) today announced the expansion of the companies’ longstanding global alliance. Through innovative solutions and go-to-market initiatives, NetApp and VMware are helping customers reduce the cost, complexity and risk of migrating and modernizing enterprise-class workloads in multi-cloud environments. In addition, organizations can accelerate the performance and delivery of both traditional and new modern applications, and simplify daily operations through new integrations between VMware and NetApp data management infrastructure.

The NetApp and VMware partnership is built on the foundation of shared experience supporting twenty thousand mutual customers over more than 20 years. NetApp is a consistent VMware strategic design partner for current and future VMware Cloud offerings including VMware vSphere, VMware Cloud Foundation and several VMware Cross-Cloud services. NetApp and VMware are helping customers to effectively manage, share and protect their hybrid and multi-cloud environments by collaborating on customer-driven co-engineering to offer innovative solutions across an ever-changing technology landscape.

“Customers today are faced with complex challenges to optimize their current IT investments while laying a path forward to modernize and accelerate their business,” said George Kurian, Chief Executive Officer, NetApp. “Together, NetApp and VMware have helped thousands of customers solve their multi-cloud challenges by effectively managing their enterprise workloads in any environment. By delivering powerful new solutions that help companies optimize their virtual data centers, modernize their applications, and provide cost-efficient, enterprise-class data management services to VMware Cloud, we can meet customers anywhere they are on their cloud journey.”

“At this stage it’s clear: Multi-cloud is the model we’re going to rely on for many years to come. It is the de facto operating model for the digital era, giving customers the freedom required to build, deploy, and manage applications in the way that best suits their business requirements,” said Raghu Raghuram, Chief Executive Officer, VMware. “Together, VMware and NetApp offer businesses the multi-cloud flexibility and choice they need to leverage the best innovations in any cloud environment.”

“Building on more than two decades of co-innovation, we are glad to see an expanded and strengthened alliance between NetApp and VMware,” said Sanjay Rohatgi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, NetApp Asia Pacific & Japan. “As APAC organizations transform their digital infrastructure to prepare for the hybrid multi-cloud era, NetApp will continue to bring together the best technology partners to support the ecosystem, every step of the way.”

NetApp and VMware: Powering the Multi-Cloud Era

The new wave of modern applications powering this digital age requires an innovative approach to enterprise workload and data management infrastructure. Organizations today are turning to the public cloud to simplify and accelerate their business initiatives and require flexibility and choice across leading public cloud providers. These organizations also need new, and integrated platforms that can manage both enterprise and modern applications while efficiently utilizing existing resources. The renewed partnership between NetApp and VMware addresses these challenges through focusing on three major customer-driven initiatives:

  • Cost-Effective & Seamless Migration to Multi-Cloud – NetApp and VMware are currently innovating together across the world’s three largest public cloud providers to certify and support VMware Cloud and NetApp Cloud Services. This helps customers running on VMware utilizing either NetApp or non-NetApp storage environments on-premises to seamlessly migrate, extend or protect data-demanding enterprise workloads and files to the cloud with reduced cost and risk. Customers can now right-size their cloud compute and storage architectures to reduce and control the costs of running data-demanding workloads in the cloud at scale, while also avoiding the costs of refactoring applications from on-premises into the cloud. NetApp and VMware have taken their decades of experience in managing enterprise workloads in the data center to deliver fully certified, integrated and supported solutions that bring these same benefits to customers leveraging the public cloud, all built on a trusted workload and data management foundation.
  • Accelerate Modernized Applications Using Kubernetes/Containers –VMware Cloud Foundation with Tanzu allows IT to manage virtual machines and orchestrate containers from one unified platform. VMware Tanzu and VMware Cloud Foundation support the use of NetApp ONTAP-based storage arrays, providing customers the ability to seamlessly build out a flexible data fabric for traditional VMs and modern, containerized applications. For Kubernetes workloads, NetApp is a design partner with VMware Tanzu container-native storage integrating Astra Control with VMware Tanzu for VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes (vVols) deployments. Customers can now simplify and accelerate new modern application development and deployment alongside traditional virtualized workloads using enterprise-scale, high-performance and protected solutions that are jointly validated and supported.
  • Optimize The Data Center Through Modernized Infrastructure –Organizations today require an efficient, cost-effective workload and data management platform to optimize existing resources. NetApp is a VMware co-design partner with vSphere and vVols for new and expanded support of key technologies from NetApp file and block storage platforms. This includes new certification and support to enable the use of vVols with NVMe-oF to allow enhanced block storage flash performance and more granular VM storage management over multiple types of network transports from FC, ethernet, and standard TCP/IP networks. This also includes new integration to enhance the availability and security of running virtualized workloads across NFS 4.1 environments. Customers can now unlock more performance for traditional virtualized workloads leveraging existing infrastructure investments while simplifying daily IT operations through jointly validated and supported solutions.

Analyst and Customer Commentary

According to IDC’s 2021 Multicloud Survey, eight in 10 organizations are operating in multicloud environments, but most of them cite challenges such as lack of integration, management complexities, lack of end-to-end visibility, limited skills, and spiraling costs of operations,” said Archana Venkatraman, Research Director, Cloud Data Management and CloudOps at IDC. “Together, VMware and NetApp are addressing these challenges head on to help customers make the most of their existing investment while providing a simplified path to move workloads to the cloud as their business requires.”

SAP solutions power many of the world’s leading businesses today, including over 90% of the Global Fortune 2000, says Ozren Kopajtic, Vice President, Global Cloud Services at SAP. “NetApp and VMware deliver the scalable, high-performance foundation of SAP’s global public cloud platform, supporting nearly 30 petabytes of information across tens of thousands of virtual volumes and virtual machines, and running one of the largest global deployments of VMware and NetApp technologies.”

“Be The Match helps thousands of people fighting blood cancers or blood diseases receive a potentially life-saving transplant each year by matching patients to donors through our national registry,” said Rob Hanson, Vice President, Technology Officer at Be The Match. “Our partnerships with NetApp and VMware allow us to efficiently manage twenty million records, benefiting from their commitments to continuous security and product innovation – key principles important to our mission. By reducing the risks of data loss while improving the productivity of our database and storage administration teams, they’re helping us bring together data from physicians, providers, donors, and researchers to have an invaluable impact on our patients.”

Introducing Aquamorphic Design: the creative and human-centric design behind the new OPPO ColorOS 13

“A good design is about initiate dialogues amongst modern civilisations, and responding to people’s needs. The ultimate goal of any piece of product design is to relieve people of their difficulties and to enhance our quality of life.” – Xi Zheng, Director of Software Design, OPPO

SHENZHEN, CHINA – Media OutReach – 31 August 2022 – In the modern digital age, people have long become used to gaining easy access to vast amounts of information through various technological devices. As people’s reliance on smart devices increases, and with the costs of device usage and maintenance keeps on surging, technology has not only brought more about convenience to our live, it also inevitably gives rise to anxiety. The over-abundance of information is drowning out people’s capacity to reflect, at the same time forcing them to live in the fear of missing out.

Typography and Card-Styled Layout

The OPPO Sans font in ColorOS 12 recentely won a Red Dot Design Award — has also received an update in ColorOS 13. The font features slightly wider text for a more stable appearance, while the text layout has been updated to create a more stereoscopic present that accentuates clarity, improves readability and visual comfort on a variety of screen display sizes.

Creating a systematic and convenient user experience in the often disorderly and complex information system is also central to us. We came up with a new solution to avoid information overload — the Card-Styled Layout. It classifies and intergrates scattered information to simplified interface presentation, enlarging the most important information and re-arranging it in an easy-to-read layout. This new design enables users to quickly get hold of the desired information they need most with the least amount of effort, all without noticing the magic of the design working tirelessly away in the background, mirroring the inconspicuous and gentle appearance of water in nature – being important, yet appearing weightless.

During the refinement process to the Control Center, controls have also been grouped and classified using the Card-Styled Layout to create a clearer information hierarchy, amplify commonly used information, and group similar information all in one accessible place.

The soft Aquamorphic Effect from of Aquamorphic Design in ColorOS 13 allows every interaction to feel completely natural and fluid, while providing a soothing sensation that brings the user closer to nature.

For example, the Fingerprint Unlock and Optimize functions are accompanied by an animated ripple effect. When the device is charging, water droplets converge to the middle of the screen. When switching between interfaces, a Gaussian blur effect creates the realistic visual sensation of looking at the bottom of a lake through the water, with the background image appearing faintly below. On top of these design touches, the Shadow Reflective Clock mimics the transistions of the sun’s rays from dawn till dusk, and the shadows casted by moonlight. The automatic shifts between lights and shadows of the clock adjust gradually depending on the time of day and night by the use of device, creating a vivid reminder to the beauty in the passage of life.

ColorOS 13 includes an upgraded Quantum Animation Engine with improved animative details and the simulations of mechanical trajectory movements and stationary states of virtual objects. This makes the animations feel even more lifelike and connected to the natural world, reducing the sense of detechment between the the digitial world and the reality.

Behavioral Predictions has also been added to process multi-gesture operations and provide intelligent, accurate, and rapid visual responses. For example, if a user slides up on the screen to exit an app and to abort a previous instruction to open the app, the system would respond immediately by suspending the previous opening instruction and to proceed directly to the real-time aborting response. Color OS 13 provides a cutting-edge technology to promote the operating fluency to a new level.

Meeting the needs of today: new functions built on the latest technology

The pandemic has completely changed the way we live our lives, introducing us with a novel remote-working mode that requires the simultaneous use of multiple devices has placed fresh demands on user experience. ColorOS 13 has been upgraded to address the users’ evolved demands by introducing a series of intelligent functions designed for the needs of today.

As more smart devices are introduced into our lives, the demand for a reliable central OS that operate in tandem with the variety of hardware is vital for users to make the most out of their devices. When concurrently working on a computer, smartphone, or tablet, ColorOS 13’s upgraded Multi-Screen Connect improves multitasking by enabling users to switch between devices in a more seamless and natural manner, therby increasing work efficiency. Meanwhile, the Adaptive Layouts of the ColorOS 13 ensure that users can enjoy the same familiar and consistent experiences on devices with different screen sizes, such as mobile phones and tablets, without any additional learning. ColorOS 13 also inherits the Red Dot Award-winning Two-Finger Split Screen function from ColorOS 12, which offers more flexibility and efficiency for multitasking on larger screens.

After addressing the core and universal needs of most users, ColorOS 13 is also designed to provide a more personalized and customized experience. Users can choose from a variety of design elements and theme colors in the system according to their own preferences, and add Home Screen Widgets that suit their usage habits, customizing their own operating system to display information that is personalized to their needs.

The Always-On Display (AOD) in ColorOS 13 has also been purposely designed to prioritize the presentation of important information, while also acting as a buffer to protects users from unnecessary and superfluous message disruptions. This allows users to concentrate their attention only on direct and concise information, with minimal diversions on time-consuming and redundant information. Through the Smart AOD, users can review the statuses of food delivery without turning on the home screen of their phone. OPPO has also entered into a partnership with Spotify that brings convenient music control to the AOD. User can access to to information more convenient in a quicker manner, all whilst minimizing power consumption too.

Moreover, ColorOS 13 provides a variety of options for users who want to customize their AOD. OPPO has been working closely with the Bitmoji team to bring it to the AOD, enabling users to create personalized virtual avatars that mimic their won facial features and expressions to create unique Bitmoji and use it as their AOD wallpaper.
