  • Unveils Leonardo da
Vinci’s world at Olympian City with never-before immersive experiences

HONG KONG, CHINA – Media
OutReach
 – 17 December
2019 – It was 500 years ago when Leonardo da Vinci, seen today
as the greatest polymath in human history, left behind his legacy. In
commemoration of the Renaissance master, elaborate exhibitions and events are
being held this year in different parts of the world. In Hong Kong, the Hong
Kong Innovation Foundation and Sino Group have partnered with Italian international
museum Leonardo3 Museum (L3) to bring its world-class travelling exhibition to Sino
Group’s Olympian City shopping centre. Entitled “Think Like Leonardo da Vinci
500th Anniversary Exhibition”, the Hong Kong event is the first
large-scale thematic exhibition L3 has staged in Asia, and is designed and
curated following high museum standards to recreate the mind-boggling world of
the great Italian inventor and artist.

With remarkable accomplishments in multiple
disciplines spanning both science and art, Leonardo da Vinci can be viewed as a
pioneer of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics)
education, whose avant-garde ideas had inspired generations that followed. Committed
to promoting his innovative spirit, L3 devotes itself to the study of da
Vinci’s inventive concepts through research, analysis and translation of his
original manuscripts and drawings. The museum also endeavours to bring these
concepts to life by recreating da Vinci’s machines and art with scientific
methods and state-of-the-art technology, together with immersive and
interactive experiences for the audience.

In the past, L3 had brought its touring
exhibitions to the United States, Turkey, Germany, Poland and Canada, among
other countries. Unlike these previous exhibitions, which were held in either traditional
museums or art galleries, the Hong Kong edition will be staged at Olympian
City has organized a variety of large-scale STEM programmes, which, combined
with arts and cultural activities, have helped to popularize STEAM education.

It is the ideal of promoting new and fresh ideas that has brought Olympian City
and L3 together to organize the touring exhibition in Hong Kong, which will
also be the first time for precious exhibits and interactive installations from
the museum’s collection to be showcased inside a shopping centre.

Themed “Think Like Leonardo da Vinci”, the
exhibition at Olympian City thoroughly showcases da Vinci’s ideas, achievements
and contributions to human society, encouraging the audience to delve into the
amazing universe of the celebrated genius. In addition to fascinating
machines
built by L3 based on da Vinci’s ideas and over 1,000 digitized
manuscripts and interactive drawings
, the distinctive event features a host
of new multi-sensory experiences especially designed for this occasion.

Ms Nikki Ng, Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong
Innovation Foundation, said, “Established to support the development of the innovation
and technology (I&T) sector and promote the spirit of innovation, the Hong
Kong Innovation Foundation provides platforms for the local public to deepen
their understanding on I&T and foster Hong Kong’s development in this area.
Leonardo da Vinci, who is heralded as the greatest polymath the planet has ever
seen and a pioneer of STEAM development, has left a far-reaching impact on the
world with his forward thinking and brilliant ideas. We are honoured to
collaborate with L3 to bring an internationally renowned exhibition devoted to
this Italian master to Hong Kong. By showcasing machines built from da Vinci’s concepts
and providing interactive experiences, the exhibition is expected to not only
inspire Hong Kong people but also help encourage I&T development in our
city.”

Mr. Mario Taddei, Co-founder and Co-technical
Director of L3, said, “L3 is devoted to the study of Leonardo da Vinci’s
ingenious ideas and sharing his innovative spirit with the world. In a similar
vein, the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation and Sino Group’s Olympian City are
dedicated to popularizing STEM education, with proven success in the various
programmes they have implemented. Sharing the same ideal of promoting
innovation, L3 is partnering with the two organizations to bring the touring
exhibition, which has already travelled to France, Italy and the US, to Hong
Kong as its first Asian stop. We are certain the event will showcase the
innovative spirit of da Vinci to the people of Hong Kong, and hope that it will
pave the way for exhibitions in other Asian cities.”

Awe-inspiring
displays and installations of da Vinci’s ingenious designs

Leonardo da Vinci was not only a celebrated
scientist and painter, but also an architect, engineer, mathematician and even
musician, with achievements in many different disciplines. Through the
interactive Codex Atlanticus and Codex on Flight at the exhibition, the
audience will be able to grasp more easily the concepts behind Leonardo da
Vinci’s multifarious inventions, presented through L3’s digitized manuscripts
and drawings, advanced technology and three-dimensional images.

The Codex Atlanticus is the world’s most
comprehensive compilation of illustrations made by da Vinci. It covers a wide
range of contents, from natural science to architecture, technology and music.
Meanwhile, the Codex on Flight includes da Vinci’s observations and concepts that
had contributed to the invention of human flight in the early 20th
century.

The exhibition will also display mechanical
models of da Vinci’s flying machine, architectural structures, musical instruments,
ships, transportations and other conceptual designs that have inspired
inventions in the generations after him.

Highlights of the
Exhibition

Step into Renaissance
paintings through interactive experiences

(1)
Smile like Mona Lisa for charity and a better
world

Mona
Lisa is the most famous painting of Leonardo da Vinci and arguably the most
famous oil painting and portrait in the world. The mysterious smile of Mona
Lisa has captivated art historians and laymen alike.

Through
an interactive installation, the exhibition will unveil the secrets behind this
acclaimed masterpiece. Visitors are also invited to take a snap at the “My MONA
LISA Smile” photo area. In addition to transforming into Mona Lisa, visitors
can become part of the interactive Mona Lisa mosaic displayed on the mega
screen at Olympian City. Furthermore, Sino Group will donate HK$5 for each
photo taken at the photo area to local charity Smile with Us HK.

(2)
VR experience unfolds secrets behind The Last
Supper

The
Last Supper
is an extraordinary masterpiece because Leonardo did
not conform to the traditional technique of drawing. With his paintbrush, he
created new and unprecedented aesthetic standards. For example, the window on
the left side of the painting is relatively short in real life, but,
considering that viewers would more often than not raise their heads to look at
the painting, he painted the window much taller than its original normal ratio
in order to achieve a visual aesthetic and a visual balance.  Leonardo was also very particular with
pigments.  In order to express a unique
amber colour, he experimented with various materials.  For instance, he used egg yolks as a pigment
and therefore created tempera.

At
the exhibition, visitors can participate in a VR experience of the widely
researched painting to find out about the drawing techniques and hidden messages
behind the masterpiece.

(3)
Are you Leonardo’s Ideal Man?

Referring
to ancient Roman architect Vitruvius’ theories on architectural golden
proportions, which proposed that every part of the human body should correspond
to the architecture of the time and maintain reasonable ratios, da Vinci
illustrated an adult male in the nude posing in two overlapping poses, with the
limbs stretched out to touch a circle and made to fit within a square made up
of sixty-four smaller squares. After some calculations, the “Ideal Man” with
the perfect human body came into being.

At the exhibition, visitors can
compare their body build to the “Ideal Man” with a body scanner. Those who are
found to be the closest fit in the weekly challenges may each receive a HK$200
voucher from an Olympian City merchant.

(4)
Let’s Fly interactive game

In
addition to appreciating da Vinci’s flying machine and manuscripts,
exhibitiongoers can take part in the “Let’s Fly” interactive game, and receive
a gift upon completing the flying contest that requires them to control the
flight with a sensor. The challenger with the highest score each week may win a
HK$200 voucher that can be used at Olympian merchants.

Qatar Airways Elevating Economy Class Travel Aboard China Flights with New ‘Quisine’ Dining Experience

Award-winning airline upgrades ‘best in class’ dining with localised Chinese menus, bigger portions and fresh, healthy seasonal ingredients

BEIJING, CHINA – Media OutReach – 17
December 2019 – Qatar Airways has elevated the Economy Class experience
with the launch of its new ‘Quisine’
dining service aboard flights to and from China.

The
national carrier of the State of Qatar has recognised the emerging trend of its
travellers being more aware of their dietary needs and expressing interests in
healthier food options. Qatar Airways supports its customers’ desires and will
now feature fresh, healthy seasonal ingredients and localised menus.

‘Quisine’ is now presented on flights
from all seven China destinations including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou,
Chengdu, Hangzhou, Chongqing and Hong Kong to its Middle East hub in Doha.

The new dining experience increases
portion sizes by 20 per cent for appetisers, 25 per cent for main courses and a
generous 50 per cent for desserts.

In
addition to the finest international selections, the localised menus also introduce
signature Chinese main course dishes such as Wuxi chicken with egg fried rice,
Wok-fired noodles with sweet and sour tofu, Stir fried herfan noodles with beef,
and Fried chicken with ginger garlic sauce. Chengdu and Chongqing flights
additionally include traditional Szechuan specialties like mapo tofu.

Meals
also feature individually-wrapped artisanal warm infused bread and individual
bottles of water.

A
wider selection of mid-flight movie snacks includes a tantalising array of artisanal
cheese and crackers, chocolate bars, potato crisps and gourmet popcorn.

Premium items usually served only in Business
and First Class are also extended to the ‘Quisine’ economy class service — such
as Godiva chocolate, sparkling wine and myriad cocktail choices.

During boarding, passengers are issued
redesigned menu cards detailing mealtimes on long-haul and ultra-long-haul
flights. Pre-dinner drinks, sparkling wine and
cocktail snacks are also served before main meals.

Meals for children feature a menu of
favourites chosen from a study group of kids from 15 nationalities — including
healthy juices, snacks and fruits packaged in a fun box, complete with a
surprise toy to delight young flyers.

As part of Qatar Airways’ commitment to
the environment, the presentation of ‘Quisine’ also focuses on reducing
single-use plastics, with an 80 per cent increase in recyclable and
biodegradable products.

“Qatar Airways is thrilled to
introduce a whole new on-board dining experience that will push the boundaries
of economy travel for our esteemed passengers. Every new concept was designed
and produced with the highest attention to taste, seasonality, detail and
quality, to meet the exacting standards of our passengers,” said Qatar Airways’ North
Asia Vice President Joshua Law.

“Qatar
Airways is collaborating closely with local farms and suppliers to produce
products for our specific needs, promoting a ‘farm-to-table’ approach. Our
in-flight dining menus are designed to align with the four seasons, better
incorporating the use of locally-grown produce and tapping into authentic foods
of local provenance delivering the very highest international standards. This
in addition to the pre-dinner
drinks and our larger portion sizes ensure we continue providing
passengers a premium dining experience in Economy Class,” added Mr. Law.

established in Dec 1999 by its founder, Mrs Koh Soo Boon, after a successful
stint as a Corporate Venture capitalist and banker. The firm identifies
start-ups and companies in early growth stages with emerging technologies and
innovations that will become game changers in the marketplace. It sources
start-ups from Silicon Valley and brings them through Singapore as a gateway to
Asia. Hence, even in the early stage of development of these start-ups, iGlobe
expanded their potential markets globally, thereby increasing the value of the
start-ups with better revenue generation and market addressability.

As an example,
iGlobe identified the potential of Unity Technologies at its early period in
2011 and led the Series B round amidst competition from 11 other larger US VCs
at that time. It earned the respect of Sequoia Capital (Series A lead of Unity
Technologies) and the Unity Technologies’ founding team.

iGlobe’s unique
track record of having brought firms to Asia over the past years, gave it that
credibility with Unity Technologies whom it brought to Singapore, as a gateway
to Asia. iGlobe often co-invests with major US VC firms such as Arch Ventures,
DCM Capital, Lux Capital, Qualcomm Ventures etc. who have found immense value
in iGlobe’s ability to identify and understand the potential value of the
start-ups and develop them. With this strategy, iGlobe has demonstrated stellar
returns for its fund investors. In a way, through its efforts, iGlobe has put
Singapore on the global VC map by being plugged into the major investing
networks. The funds have outperformed the global benchmarks for VC firms.
iGlobe invests in Silicon Valley firms and brings them to Asia. Similarly, it

Things you need to know about the new BVN 2.0

The Bankers’ Commit-tee has commenced Bank Verification Number (BVN) classification plan that will allow the rich and poor in rural areas to have access to financial services.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele who broke the news on Saturday at the end of the 11th Bankers’ Committee retreat in Ogere, Ogun State, said BVN will now be classified into two- BVN Premium and BVN Lite.

What this means

BVN Premium will cover bank customers that can provide the 18 basic requirements for a complete BVN enrolment while the BVN Lite will require minimal documentation like name and phone number for bank customers, especially those at the rural areas that do not meet the full requirements.

This will enable such grassroots customers, mainly the poor, conduct minimal financial services and reduce financial exclusion rate for Nigeria.

The CBN introduced BVN scheme into the banking sector in 2014 and has since enrolled over 40 million bank customers into the scheme and targets taking the number of BVN-linked accounts to 100 million in the next five years. The BVN scheme, which gives each bank customer unique identification, was meant to revolutionise the banking and payment systems while ensuring the safety of depositors’ funds.

The CBN Governor said the Bankers’ Committee is collaborating with the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and Mobile Money Operators (MMOs) to ensure that the project succeeds and more Nigerians brought into the financial system. He said the BVN 2.0 classification scheme will help bring more people into the financial system and reduce the financial exclusion rate.

Emefiele said the Know Your Customer (KYC) scheme is part of what will be migrated into the BVN Lite. “However, there are people who are currently financially excluded, like people in our rural communities that carry phones but not having financial services. With the collaboration of NCC, we are putting this BVN arrangement to allow them to conduct minimal financial services.”

He added, “It should be possible for us to migrate this person into the BVN lite arrangement where they can conduct minimal financial services, not just banking services, but minimal financial services, insurance and anything you want to conduct in terms of finance, e-payment, or anything, you can do it with the aid of your phone. Bringing them into the financial system will help to increase the rate of financial inclusion and reduce the exclusion rate.”

How does this affect you

According to Emefiele, with the benefits of the BVN to bank customers and the economy, there is a need to consolidate and move BVN to 2.0. “This entails, for instance, to reclassify and segregate transactions that could be done on BVN. We have two classifications. The existing BVN that we have in the system has about 18 lines of information. We decided that we classify into BVN premium and BVN lite. There should also be a system where people who are financially excluded can now be included. If you are on BVN lite there is a limit to the kind of transactions you can do in terms of deposit and in items of loans,” he added.

“The important thing is that we want to make you financially included where you can conduct basic banking services. Our people in the rural communities who have BVN lite will later be migrated to the BVN premium when you meet all the requirements,” he stated.

Speaking on securing the banking system, Emefiele said cyber risk which today is growing in different parts of the world means that banks, the CBN, and the government, need to do something about it to protect the financial system.

The banks were also advised to invest more money in tools whether soft or hardware that will help them in containing cyber risks in their operational environment. “But of course on the part of the CBN, we have all along been issuing different guidelines and frameworks on how the banks can combat and how the industry and the country can combat the incidence of cyberattacks which in any case will continue but we just need to prepare that when they strike we are able to withstand the shock and we are able to discover it early enough for the banks not to lose money or for depositors funds not to be lost by a bank,” he said.

Lifeworth HMO, Nigeria’sproactive and trustworthy health management organization, organized a breakfast meeting for various Healthcare Providers within the industry. The event which recently took place in Lagos aims to enhance the quality of service within the healthcare value chain.

In his welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Raymond Osho, noted that the Health Insurance in Nigeria is at its infancy, however, the journey that has started must be periodically evaluated through discourses on how well to improve Healthcare delivery.

According to Dr Osho, “Affordable healthcare must deliver on its mandate which includes accessibility, responsiveness and quality. This will, in turn, give the enrollees the best of services from the HMO which is delivered by the healthcare providers. This is the way through which the enrollees can trust the system, as a whole.”

The keynote speaker at the event, the Past President of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), Dr Anthony Omolola charged Healthcare Practitioners to digitize their practice as well as improve on their financial acumen. On the part of the HMOs, he emphasized on the need for seamless generation of authorization codes for providers on behalf of their enrollees in order to ensure speedy care.

While delivering a paper on “Health Insurance: Improving Service Delivery to the Enrollees,” the Associate Director, Health Financing, Health Systems Consult Limited, Dr.Oluwatosin Kolade shared the experience of  Nigeria’s Health Insurance Industry with what is obtainable in other African countries like Ghana, Rwanda amongst others.

He noted that while Nigeria was the first country to start Health Insurance amongst the three (3) countries, Nigeria has only been able to achieve fewer than5% coverage of its population as compared to Ghana and Rwanda’shealth insurance cover of about 50% and over 90% of their populations respectively.

Focusing on the healthcare systems, Dr Kolade noted that the number of medical colleges in the country, estimated at thirty (30) colleges as compared to three hundred (300) colleges in India, is abysmally low, thus making the number of the doctors available to cater for Nigerians to be very limited. Compounding the shortage of trained medical doctors is also the mass exodus of medical practitioners currently been experienced at an alarming rate.

The 14th LAIF which coincided with the agency’s 7th anniversary of the X3M Ideas’ presence in the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) fold, equally shows the agency’s steady rise to the pinnacle of the creative industry in Nigeria as an undisputable creative powerhouse in record time of less than eight years of existence.

It will be recalled that the agency was one of the best three at the 2018 edition of the award where it carted home 5 Gold; 7 Silver and 8 Bronze, making a total of 20 medals to place an enviable 3rd in the industry last year, capping it with the first position in 2019 is remarkable and tells a lot on the characters of the agency and its people -“future-forward and very proactive”, declared Ogunniyi claiming that he has always known this when he visited the agency as member of a University of Ibadan Post Graduate team of Communications students in 2014.

Speaking on the current landmark achievement by the X3M Ideas,  the agency’s CEO, Steve Babaeko shortly after the awards, disclosed winning the most coveted award of the night, the “Grand Prix” took him by surprise.  I knew it will come but maybe I didn’t have my mind on it this year but the fact is that “We’ve always wanted to be number 1 and we consistently work towards it without losing focus at any time. Hence, the agency has always had its nose to the grindstone resulting in consistent growth over the years which sets the agency apart in the industry thanks to exemplary drive, uncommon proficiency at pushing the frontiers on behalf of its discerning clients, cutting through the clutter to give the clients’ brands vantage positioning in the markets and in the consumer’s mind as these are the hallmarks of the agency, Steve explained.

“I am really proud of the team since we started participating in LAIF in 2013, we’ve consistently been in the top 3 or 4 brackets.
