Wema Bank Opens Final Entries For One-Day MD/CEO Children’s Day Competition

Wema Bank has announced the final deadline for submissions into its One-Day MD/CEO Children’s Day initiative, giving Nigerian children and teenagers another opportunity to lead the financial institution for a day as part of its youth empowerment campaign.

The bank disclosed that entries for the competition will officially close on May 20, 2026, urging interested participants and parents to complete their submissions before the deadline expires.

Originally introduced in 2025 during Wema Bank’s 80th anniversary celebrations, the initiative was designed to inspire leadership, innovation, and ambition among young Nigerians by allowing a selected child to experience the responsibilities of a bank chief executive officer firsthand.

Brandspur Banking News reports that the programme forms part of Wema Bank’s broader strategy to encourage youth development and strengthen future leadership capacity through experiential learning opportunities targeted at children and teenagers nationwide.

The winner of the initiative will assume the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank for one day during the Children’s Day celebration scheduled for May 25, 2026.

According to the bank, eligible participants between the ages of zero and 16 are expected to create and post a 60-second video on social media explaining their dream role within the banking industry and how they hope to make an impact through leadership and innovation.

Entries must include the hashtag #EvolutionOfPossibilities and tag Wema Bank’s official social media accounts, while the participant with the highest engagement is expected to emerge as the winner of the competition.

The inaugural edition of the programme gained national attention after 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah emerged as the first One-Day MD/CEO, with the initiative receiving widespread praise from parents, educators, and youth advocates for promoting leadership aspirations among Nigerian children.

Wema Bank stated that the selected winner will participate in executive-level activities, including strategic meetings and leadership engagements, while gaining practical exposure to the operations of the bank and its digital banking platform, ALAT.

Industry observers say youth-focused initiatives by financial institutions are increasingly becoming part of broader corporate strategies aimed at promoting financial literacy, leadership development, and long-term talent cultivation among Nigeria’s younger population.

Interswitch Strengthens Nigeria Revenue Collection System Through RevOP Payment Platform

Interswitch has expanded its support for Nigeria’s public revenue collection system through its continued integration with the Revenue Assurance and Optimisation Platform, popularly known as RevOP.

Why Brands And Businesses Are Losing Impact By Overcomplicating Creative Ideas

Businesses and marketing professionals are increasingly being warned against overcomplicating creative strategies as industry experts argue that simplicity remains one of the most powerful tools for building strong brand communication and audience engagement.

Marketing specialists say many organisations continue to undermine effective ideas by adding excessive messaging, layered objectives, and unnecessary complexity in an attempt to appear more thorough, strategic, or innovative in highly competitive business environments.

Industry analysts note that while simplicity is widely praised in advertising, branding, and corporate communication, decision-makers often struggle to embrace it during campaign development because of internal pressure, stakeholder expectations, and fear of risk.

Brandspur Brand News reports that creative professionals are now encouraging companies to rethink how they approach communication strategy by focusing on clarity, emotional connection, and stronger message discipline instead of overcrowded campaigns.

According to marketing experts at M+C Saatchi Abel, many professionals instinctively add extra details, explanations, and objectives to ideas not because it improves the final work, but because it creates a sense of security during presentations, approvals, and high-pressure decision-making processes.

The report highlighted that businesses frequently mistake complexity for diligence, leading to advertising campaigns, presentations, and brand strategies that overwhelm audiences instead of delivering memorable communication.

Behavioural experts referenced in the analysis also explained that many organisations engage in what is described as “defensive decision-making,” where teams choose safer and more complicated approaches that are easier to justify internally rather than pursuing bold, simple ideas capable of generating stronger audience impact.

Marketing strategists believe the most effective campaigns are often those that communicate a single powerful message clearly, allowing consumers to immediately understand and connect with the brand without confusion or unnecessary interpretation.

The study further noted that audiences increasingly prefer concise and emotionally resonant communication in today’s fast-moving digital environment, where consumers are exposed to large volumes of competing content across multiple platforms daily.

Experts added that companies capable of simplifying their messaging while maintaining authenticity and strategic focus are more likely to build stronger customer recall, higher engagement levels, and lasting brand relevance in the modern attention economy.

Businesses Struggle To Unlock AI Productivity Gains Despite Rising Global Investment

Global businesses are facing mounting challenges in translating artificial intelligence investments into measurable workplace productivity gains despite growing adoption of advanced AI technologies across industries.

A new report released by Top Employers Institute revealed that while most senior executives expect artificial intelligence to significantly improve organisational performance, many employees still lack the knowledge and confidence required to use AI tools effectively in daily operations.

The report, which examined workplace trends across nearly 2,500 organisations in more than 120 countries, warned that companies introducing AI systems without redesigning workplace structures, employee roles, and governance frameworks risk creating operational inefficiencies and workforce disruption instead of productivity growth.

Brandspur Tech News reports that the rapid expansion of agentic AI systems across Europe and other global markets is exposing widening gaps in workforce readiness, employee engagement, and corporate governance as organisations race to integrate automation into business operations.

Researchers found that many workers are increasingly concerned about job security, workplace surveillance, burnout, and ethical risks associated with AI deployment, while some employees have reportedly begun using unauthorised AI tools to bypass internal company controls in pursuit of faster results.

Lead HR auditor at Top Employers Institute, Sandra Botha, said organisations must move beyond simply adopting new technology and focus instead on creating systems where humans and AI can work together efficiently and responsibly.

According to the report, businesses achieving stronger employee engagement and improved operational outcomes are those actively involving workers in AI integration processes, redesigning job structures around evolving technology demands, and aligning workforce planning with future digital skill requirements.

The study also highlighted the emergence of a new category of worker described as the “AI orchestrator,” referring to employees who use AI systems to coordinate tasks, streamline workflows, and deliver outputs previously requiring multiple team members.

Despite growing interest in AI transformation, the report noted that only a limited number of organisations currently operate formal long-term workforce planning systems capable of anticipating future skills gaps and adapting to rapid technological change.

The findings further showed a sharp increase in the adoption of ethical AI governance frameworks among global employers as businesses seek to reduce risks linked to automated decision-making, data management, accountability, and operational control.

Industry analysts say the report underscores a broader shift in the future of work, where companies able to successfully combine workforce strategy, ethical governance, and intelligent automation are likely to gain a stronger competitive advantage in the evolving global digital economy.

TikTok Expands Into Scripted Entertainment With Rising Popularity Of Microdrama Series

TikTok is accelerating its expansion into scripted digital entertainment through the growing success of microdrama content, a new category of short-form television-style series designed specifically for mobile audiences.

The social media giant recently launched PineDrama, a dedicated platform for professionally produced vertical drama series featuring short episodic content centred on romance, suspense, family conflict, revenge stories, and supernatural themes targeted at younger viewers.

Industry analysts say the move signals TikTok’s deeper entry into the global streaming and entertainment market as audiences increasingly shift toward bite-sized mobile-first video consumption driven by algorithmic recommendations and personalised content feeds.

Brandspur Tech News reports that PineDrama has already attracted significant engagement in the United States and Brazil, with several original productions recording millions of views within weeks of release as TikTok leverages its existing global user base to promote the emerging format.

One of the platform’s most talked-about releases, “Screen Time,” created by Issa Rae, reportedly surpassed 100 million views shortly after its debut, highlighting the growing demand for short-form scripted storytelling on social platforms.

Media experts believe TikTok’s approach mirrors traditional television programming models by combining serialised storytelling, recurring characters, emotional cliffhangers, and continuous advertising integration within an endless stream of personalised content.

Unlike conventional streaming platforms that rely heavily on subscription revenue, TikTok’s entertainment strategy remains deeply connected to advertising and user engagement, allowing the company to monetise attention through algorithm-driven content discovery and targeted digital ads.

The rise of microdrama entertainment has also intensified comparisons between TikTok and former short-form streaming platform Quibi, which shut down less than a year after launch despite raising billions of dollars from investors and securing major Hollywood partnerships.

However, analysts note that TikTok holds a significant advantage through its established global audience, strong recommendation technology, and integration of social sharing features that encourage rapid content discovery and viral engagement.

Several other microdrama platforms, including ReelShort, DramaBox, and ShortMax, have also gained momentum in recent years, reflecting broader consumer interest in fast-paced mobile entertainment formats.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is reportedly investing heavily in the sector as competition intensifies among digital platforms seeking to dominate the next phase of online entertainment and streaming innovation.

NDLEA Dismantles N480bn Meth Laboratory In Ogun, Arrests Three Mexican Nationals

0

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has uncovered and dismantled a large-scale methamphetamine production laboratory hidden inside a forest in Ogun State, leading to the arrest of three Mexican nationals and several Nigerian suspects linked to an international drug trafficking syndicate.

The anti-narcotics agency disclosed that operatives raided the illegal facility located in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State after months of intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance operations across Ogun and Lagos states.

Authorities said the operation resulted in the seizure of more than 2.4 tonnes of methamphetamine and chemical substances valued at over N480 billion in the international illicit drug market, making it one of the largest meth-related busts recorded in Nigeria in recent years.

Brandspur Crime News reports that the clandestine laboratory was allegedly operated by a Nigerian drug cartel working in collaboration with foreign methamphetamine experts recruited from Mexico to manufacture the illicit substance locally for international distribution.

According to the agency, tactical teams simultaneously stormed a residential property in the Lakowe area of Lekki, Lagos, where the suspected cartel leader identified as Anochili Innocent was apprehended during the coordinated crackdown.

The NDLEA confirmed that the arrested Mexican nationals were identified as Martinez Felix Nemecto, Jesus López Valles, and Torrero Juan Carlos, while several Nigerian collaborators were also taken into custody during the operation.

Investigators revealed that operatives recovered large quantities of crystallised methamphetamine, liquid chemical mixtures, industrial solvents, and precursor substances allegedly used in the illegal production process.

Officials added that vehicles believed to have been used for the cartel’s operations, including a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Highlander SUV, were also seized during the raids linked to the syndicate.

The agency warned that the illegal laboratory posed serious threats to public health and national security, stressing that the dismantling of the network marks a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s fight against transnational organised drug trafficking.

NDLEA further stated that investigations are ongoing to track additional members of the syndicate and uncover the wider international network connected to the operation.

Arsenal End 22-Year EPL Drought As African Leaders Celebrate Historic Triumph

0

Arsenal F.C. have won the English Premier League title for the first time in 22 years after closest challengers Manchester City F.C. were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth, handing the North London side an unassailable lead at the top of the table ahead of the final round of matches.

The title victory sparked celebrations across London and among millions of supporters worldwide, with fans gathering outside the Emirates Stadium as fireworks and flares lit up the night following confirmation of Arsenal’s first league triumph since the famous 2004 “Invincibles” campaign under former manager Arsène Wenger.

At Arsenal’s London Colney training ground, players and staff reportedly celebrated wildly after City dropped crucial points, while winger Bukayo Saka took aim at critics who had questioned the club’s mentality during the title race, declaring in a celebratory video that “there was laughing, there was joking, they’re not laughing anymore” after Arsenal finally ended their long wait for Premier League glory.

Brandspur Sports reports that Arsenal’s triumph also generated major reactions across Africa, with several African presidents and political figures taking to social media to congratulate the club, reflecting the enormous popularity Arsenal enjoy among football fans across the continent.

The Gunners had faced intense scrutiny earlier in the season after a crucial defeat to Manchester City raised fresh doubts about their ability to handle pressure in the closing stages of the campaign. However, manager Mikel Arteta guided the team to four straight league victories without conceding a goal to secure the title in dramatic fashion.

Defender academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly also joined the celebrations, joking in a video shared online that critics “called us bottlers, and now we’re holding the bottle” as Arsenal players sprayed champagne following confirmation of their championship success.

Former Arsenal boss Wenger congratulated the current squad in a message released by the club, praising the players for their determination and resilience throughout the season, while Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also paid tribute to Arteta and his team for what he described as a deserved title-winning campaign.

Arsenal are expected to lift the Premier League trophy after their final league match against Crystal Palace and could still cap off a historic season with a UEFA Champions League triumph when they face Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in the final later this month.

Dangote Unveils Multi-Billion-Dollar Olokola Deep Seaport Project In Ogun

Dangote Industries Limited has announced plans to develop a multi-billion-dollar deep seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State as part of a broader strategy to expand Nigeria’s industrial and maritime infrastructure.

The proposed seaport, which will cover more than 10,000 hectares along the Atlantic coastline, is expected to strengthen export operations, improve regional trade, and position Nigeria as a major logistics hub in Africa. The project site stretches from Ogun Waterside Local Government Area into parts of Ilaje Local Government Area in Ondo State.

  • Google Marketing Live 2026
  • Google unveiled new agentic creative and end-to-end solutions powered by multimodal AI.
  • Agentic commerce capabilities are transforming the next era of retail, catering to the new ways people shop and driving businesses growth.

[NIGERIA], May, 2026.- Today marked a new edition of Google Marketing
Live (GML), where the company unveiled a new generation of solutions,
built with Gemini, designed to help businesses of all sizes grow more
intelligently and effectively across Search and YouTube.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is evolving from a promise into an everyday
reality, unlocking new growth opportunities for businesses. At GML,
Google showcased how Gemini is becoming the engine driving new ways for
brands to boost discovery, creativity, commerce, and measurement. From
transforming AI into a strategic partner for marketers, to scaling human
creativity, providing clearer insights into marketing investment
performance, and expanding agentic commerce capabilities for retailers,
Gemini is turning AI from an operational tool into an intelligent growth
engine.

Below are the key announcements from GML 2026:

Introducing next-generation of ads on Search

People are coming to Google to ask more and different types of
questions, and Search is becoming an even deeper tool for discovery and
decision-making with generative AI. Google is reinventing ads for this
new era to answer and inspire all at once.

As Google continues to test ads in AI Mode in the U.S., they are
introducing two new ad formats designed to be more useful and
contextualized. Both of these new formats feature an independent AI
explanation that evaluates information about a product or service, using
Gemini models.

With Conversational Discovery ads in AI Mode, Gemini models take the
deep context of the user’s question and generate a customized ad
creative from a business that offers a solution, highlighting specific
relevant features. The second format appears when AI Mode curates a
recommendation list. An advertiser can appear as a featured
recommendation in Highlighted Answers. This only happens if the
recommendation has a high quality and is relevant to the search. These
features are currently being tested in the U.S. in English, and ads
within AI Mode will continue to be clearly labeled as Sponsored.

Google launched a Direct Offers pilot in the U.S. in January and is now
expanding them with two new features: promotion bundling and new travel
offers. Brands can now upload promotions like discounts, giveaways, and
local coupons, and Gemini will match them to present the most compelling
offer. The tool will also soon feature hotel booking deals from travel
partners like Booking and Expedia in the U.S. directly within a
person’s AI-assisted trip planning.

We’re also introducing two new ad formats built with Gemini on the
search results page. AI-powered Shopping ads— in the U.S. — surface
relevant Shopping ads along with an AI explainer about why it might be
the right choice, anticipating specific needs before the person even
asks. Business Agent for Leads, built with Gemini, puts a brand agent
directly inside the ad that allows the shopper to chat with an agent
trained on the advertiser’s website. This helps turn a helpful
interaction into a valuable lead.

New creative tools, AI-powered campaigns, and advanced measurement

Google is upgrading Asset Studio, its AI-powered creative hub, to make
it even easier to create the range of assets needed to drive performance
across Google and YouTube. Users can now generate compelling,
brand-accurate ad assets just by inserting a description in everyday
language. Because Asset Studio is built directly into Google Ads, the
tool already knows past campaign performances, and business goals. But
now, the tool can ingest far more information—allowing users to upload
full marketing briefs, reference images, brand guidelines, and more.

Google AI will then use these new imports to generate and refine bespoke
text, image, and video assets tailored to the user’s exact vision.
When the creative assets are ready, they can be tested with a single
click using 1-Click A/B Testing to find the best performer.. These
features will be available globally and in English.

AI-powered campaigns help marketers keep pace with the new ways people
are searching and discovering products on Search, YouTube and beyond.

Available globally, Demand Gen capabilities are expanding to new
surfaces and gaining new features. With a new Google Maps inventory,
Demand Gen connects brands with people exploring their local areas
during key moments of discovery and consideration. Google is also
launching the ability to integrate Merchant Center product videos
directly into Demand Gen campaigns to help retailers bring their
products to life at scale.

Having a clear view of performance across channels unlocks smarter
investment decisions. Meridian, Google’s open-source Marketing Mix
Model, will now be integrated directly into Google Analytics 360 to help
businesses globally analyze cross-channel and first-party data in one
place. Google is also launching Qualified Future Conversions to help
marketers measure what happens long after someone first sees their ad.

New agentic tools

Earlier this year, Google announced Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)
and co-developed it with leading partners across the retail ecosystem.
UCP solves the core challenge of scaling agentic commerce across the
entire web, by allowing agents to connect to business systems, securely
and seamlessly. UCP is now expanding into additional industries and
bringing new capabilities to retailers on Google. Building on the
single-item checkout experience which lets customers buy products on
Google without ever leaving their chat, UCP is now evolving, allowing
shoppers to buy multiple products from a single business at once. Soon,
shoppers will also have the option to transfer items from Google to the
retailer’s site to complete the transaction. These features will
initially launch in the U.S., in English, with select retailers.

Soon, UCP-powered checkout in Shopping ads on YouTube will make it
easier to buy products on the spot. In the coming months, UCP-powered
experiences on Google will also expand to Canada and Australia, and
later the United Kingdom. Additionally, UCP will also scale to new
categories, including hotel booking and local food delivery, in the
coming months.

People are using AI Mode and Gemini to shop more, so to help merchants
get discovered in those moments, Google is rolling out the AI
performance insights tool in Merchant Center in the coming months in
Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the U.S. This new tool helps
brands compare their share of voice against similar brands in all
shopping journeys starting from AI Mode, AI Overviews and the Gemini
app. Google also released conversational attributes globally which allow
merchants to update their product descriptions to reflect the more
conversational way people search.

Built with Gemini, Google’s advertising and commerce tools are moving
from marketing automation to marketing intelligence, becoming strategic
partners to businesses. The new Ask Advisor works across Google’s
in-product agents — Google Ads, Google Analytics, Google Marketing
Platform, and soon Merchant Center— to offer proactive personalized
recommendations that save marketers time and help them to reach their
business goals. Ask Advisor is currently available in beta for English
language accounts with new features rolling out in the coming months.

Synology Launches PAS7700 Optimized Storage System for High-Intensity Data Operation Environments

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 21 May 2026 – Synology today announced the general availability of PAS7700, the company’s first active-active, all flash NVMe storage system. Built for mission-critical workloads, PAS7700 delivers enterprise-grade performance, uninterrupted resilience, and optimized operational efficiency.

Synology PAS7700 delivers ultra-high performance, active-active availability and sub-millisecond latency for mission-critical workloads.

As AI, data analytics, and virtualization platforms continue to reshape how Singapore enterprises operate their IT infrastructure, storage is no longer merely a place to keep data. It has become the foundation behind core operational applications. As a result, organizations are placing greater demands on access speed, service continuity, and long-term operational stability. This is also why enterprises are increasingly seeking high-performance storage platforms that can maintain reliable operations over time.

“PAS7700 reflects Synology’s 25+ years of experience in storage and our close collaboration with enterprise customers to address evolving requirements for high availability, performance, and scalability,” said Bie-i Chu, Executive Vice President of the Synology NAS Group. “After a year of extensive real-world validation through our enterprise proof-of-concept program, PAS7700 is field-proven to deliver high reliability and performance, while helping customers lower total cost of ownership (TCO).”

A Storage Platform for Mission-Critical Systems
PAS7700 is equipped with dual controllers and 48 NVMe SSD bays in a 4U chassis, and can scale up to 1.65 PB of raw storage capacity with up to seven expansion units. The system supports both file and block storage and offers broad protocol support, including NVMe-oF, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SMB, and NFS.

With up to 2,048 GB of memory* and 100GbE networking, PAS7700 delivers up to 2 million IOPS, latency of under 1 millisecond and sequential throughput of up to 30 GB/s.

PAS7700 is designed for environments that require real-time data processing, such as virtualization, databases and large-scale data processing environments. It also targets performance-intensive and always-on workloads such as VDI, EDA and AI.

In addition, the solution is well suited for organizations operating data-intensive infrastructure in sectors such as data centers, manufacturing, semiconductor design, game development, and healthcare. These environments typically process large volumes of data concurrently and require systems that can sustain consistent performance and continuous service availability.

Designed to Minimize System Disruption
One of PAS7700’s most notable strengths is its active-active architecture, which enables both controllers to operate simultaneously rather than relying on a traditional active-standby model. If one controller or a network component fails, the system can continue delivering services, significantly reducing the risk of business disruption.

The system is built with multiple protection layers to ensure high availability, including triple-parity RAID, mirrored write cache protection, IP failover, and automatic failover mechanisms.

PAS7700 also includes Continuous Availability Manager that enables enterprise IT teams to visually monitor the health status of each system component and detect and address issues quickly before they affect services.

Multi-Layer Data Protection for Enterprises
Synology places strong emphasis on enterprise data protection. PAS7700 supports Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs), providing hardware-level protection without compromising system performance.

The system also supports WORM folders and immutable snapshots, allowing snapshots to remain protected from unauthorized modification or deletion after creation, thereby reducing the risk of tampering and unauthorized data interference.

In addition, PAS7700 features Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup that enable enterprises to build multiple layers of backup and recovery between production environments and secondary systems. This helps strengthen cyber resilience and improve data recoverability in the event of incidents or cyberattacks.

Lower Cost, Greater Efficiency
Beyond performance, Synology also addresses the challenge of optimizing long-term storage investment for enterprises. As many businesses in Singapore continue expanding their data infrastructure, virtual machines and internal AI workloads, the cost of high-speed storage is exerting increasing pressure on IT environments.

PAS7700 supports both inline and offline deduplication technologies to help reduce unnecessary data usage and extend SSD lifespan. This mechanism can significantly improve storage efficiency in large-scale data environments.

In the near future, the system will also support Synology Tiering, which automatically moves infrequently accessed data to high-capacity storage systems. This helps free up high-speed NVMe resources for active applications and hot data.

The entire platform runs on DSM Enterprise, Synology’s operating system developed specifically for enterprise storage, and is designed for environments that require high performance while maintaining intuitive management and operational simplicity.

PAS7700 is now available globally through Synology’s network of partners and distributors.
