Lagos NIPR set to host 2017 Digital PR Summit

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos State Chapter, has concluded plans to host the second edition of Digital PR Summit from 18 to 19 October, 2017.

The digital summit themed: ‘Building and Managing Relationships with New Media’, will hold at Nigerian Institute of Management, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to Olusegun McMedal, Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the umbrella body, the two-day event is an experiential gathering of hundreds of communicators, marketers, and social media professionals from agency, B2B, B2C, non-profit, small business, students and government organisations focused on achieving collective intelligence to equip and empower them with high-level digital media strategies, tactics and how-to so they can do their job better, and train their teammates.

“Social media, when used correctly, can be an executive marketing tool, a global media for PR practice and a resource to garner consumer and competitor intelligence”, he said.

Special guests expected at the opening of the Summit include the President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Rotimi Oladele and President, Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria, PRCAN, and Managing Director, MediaCraft Associates, Mr. John Ehiguese, amongst others. The Managing Director, The Quadrant Company, Mr. Bolaji Okusaga, will deliver the keynote lecture to build on the success of the first edition.

Distinguished members of faculty include the Group Managing Director, Prima Garnet Africa, Mr. Lolu Akinwunmi; Vice President, Communications and CSR, Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Emeka Oparah; General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications, First Bank PLC, Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney; Co-founder/Managing Partner, RED Media Africa/The Future Project, Mr. Debola Williams; and Chief Innovation Officer, BusinessPlus Services, Mr. Ekundayo Ayeni. Globally, over two billion people are now on social media and the average user spends nearly two hours a day on the platforms. Studies have shown that three out of four consumers say social media impact their buying decisions. For sure, these trends will continue as internet penetration increases and more and newer social patterns emerge.

Last year, the Lagos State Chapter; the flagship branch of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the umbrella body of professional Public Relations practitioners chartered to regulate as well as direct its development and the practice in Nigeria, convened the inaugural Lagos Digital PR Summit to sharpen the skill-set and build capacity of specialized group of communicators to explore the burgeoning new media space to build and maintain relationships.

Mr. Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Zinox Technologies Ltd, was joined by Mr. Olufemi Odubiyi, Commissioner for Science and Technology, Lagos State, amongst other dignitaries, to open the conference.
