Petrol & Diesel Became Costlier In December – NBS

The average prices of petrol and diesel as bought by Nigerians increased in December 2017. This, however, contrasts with the decline recorded in average prices of cooking gas (5Kg cylinder).
The average prices of the petroleum products were made known in four separate reports on petrol, kerosene, cooking gas and diesel prices released today by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in Abuja.

The report showed the average price paid by consumers for premium motor spirit (petrol) increased by 17.10% year-on-year and 17.98% month-on-month to N171.8 in December 2017 from N145.6 in November 2017.

The report revealed that the states with the highest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Abia (N220.4), Kebbi (N210.08) & Anambra (N210). States with the lowest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Ekiti (N146), Abuja FCT (N146.53) & Lagos (N149.83).

Meanwhile, the Diesel Price Watch showed that the average price paid by consumers for automotive gas oil (diesel) increased by 3.29% month-on-month and by 4.87% year-on-year to N205.81 in December 2017 from N199.26 in November 2017.

States with the highest average price of diesel were Kaduna (N250.63) Adamawa (N235) and Taraba (N227). States with the lowest average price of diesel were Bayelsa (N184), Akwa Ibom (N187.78) and Zamfara (N190).
