Residents of Bauchi, Anambra & Rivers pay cheapest bus fare in June – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said residents of Bauchi, Anambra & Rivers paid the lowest bus fare within the city in June.

The NBS stated this in Transport Fare Watch for June 2018 published on its website.

The Bureau stated that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journey within the city increased by 1.53% month-on-month and 32.75% year-on-year to N168.90 in June 2018 from N166.85 in May 2018. States with highest bus journey fare within city were Abuja FCT (N336.20), Cross River (N282.20) and Abia (N235.50) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Bauchi (N88.00), Anambra (N95.00) and Rivers (N100.00).

The report said that average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity increased by 0.75% month-on-month and 15.48% year-on-year to N1,729.01 in June 2018 from N1,716.31 in May 2018. States with highest bus journey fare intercity were Abuja FCT (N4,150.00), Adamawa (N3,200.00) and Borno (N2,750.00) while States with lowest bus journey fare within the city were Bauchi (N1,065.00), Enugu (N1,090.00) and Zamfara (N1,150.00).

The transport fare watch covered the following categories: bus journey within the city per drop on regular routes; intercity bus journeys and state routes as well as charge per person. It also covered airfare charge for specified routes per journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and waterway passenger transport.

According to the report, the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey increased by 0.53% month-on-month and decreased by 0.34% year-on-year to N31,828.38 in June 2018 from N31,659.82 in May 2018. States with the highest airfare were Lagos (N41,300.00), Edo (N39,900.00) and Abuja FCT (N39,500.00) while States with the lowest airfare were Katsina (N24,500.00), Osun (N24,900.00), and Nassarawa (N25,700.00).

The report, however, stated the average fare paid by commuters for the journey by motorcycle per drop increased by 0.73% month-on-month and 5.70% year-on-year to N106.06 in June 2018 from N105.55 in May 2018. States with highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Ondo (N180.00), Rivers (N175.00) and Enugu (N170.00) while states with lowest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Katsina (N55.00), Niger (N58.00) and Jigawa (N60.00).

The report noted that the average fare paid by passengers for waterway passenger transport increased by 0.21% month-on-month and decreased by 3.19% year-on-year to N574.30 in June 2018 from N573.09 in May 2018. States with the highest fare by waterway passenger transport were Rivers (N2,000.00), Bayelsa (N1,950.00) and Delta (N1,549.00) while states with the lowest fare by waterway passenger transport were Borno (N145.00), Gombe (N180.00) and Abuja FCT (N240.00).
