The average price of price of 1kg of yam tube decreased by 4.32 per cent in August, the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has said.
The NBS, in its “Selected Food Price watch data for August 2018” released on Monday in Abuja, noted that one kilogramme (1kg) was sold for N292.97 in August 2018 from N280.83 in July 2018.
According to the report, an average price of 1 dozen of Agric eggs medium size decreased year-on-year by -2.28% and increased month-on-month by 0.50% to N474.13 in August 2018 from N471.75 in July 2018 while the average price of piece of Agric eggs medium size(price of one) decreased year-on-year by -2.62% and increased month-on-month by 1.39% to N41.79 in August 2018 from N41.22 in July 2018.
It further stated that the average price of 1kg of tomato decreased year-on-year by -21.94% and increased month-on-month by 0.11% to N336.65 in August 2018 from N336.29 in July 2018.
It, however, stated that the average price of 1kg of rice (imported high quality sold loose) decreased year-on-year by -2.43% and increased month-on-month by 1.14% to N375.02 in August 2018 from N370.79 in July 2018.
Similarly, the average price of 1kg of yam tuber decreased year-on-year by -14.68% and month-on-month by 4.32% to N292.97 in August 2018 from N280.83 in July 2018.
According to the NBS, over 700 staff were sent to all the states of the Federation for the field work and were supervised by experts.
Prices were, thereafter, collected across all the 774 local governments across all states and the FCT from over 10,000 respondents, locations and analysed, it explained.
