Equity market trade low in first post Eid-El-Kabir trading session

    The Nigerian Equity Market today closed its first trading session post-eid-el-Kabir holiday on a bearish note, as the All-Share Index declined by 0.82%. The decline was impacted by price depreciation in many large and middle capitalized stocks across the sectors save for insurance sector which closed positive. Similarly, market breadth closed negative, recording 4 gainers and 27 losers.

    NSE Trading Floor

    The All Share Index (ASI) decreased by 223.7 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.82% to close at 27,083.11 points. Similarly, the Market Capitalization lost N108.68 billion, representing a dip of 0.82% to close at N13.20 trillion.

    CONTINSURE emerged the top gainer while UACN emerged as top loser.

    The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; UACN (-10.00%), FLOURMILL (-8.50%), TOTAL (-6.06%), CCNN (-5.36%), DANGSUGAR (-3.54%), ETI(-3.45%), OANDO (-2.70%), WAPCO (-2.67%), GUARANTY (-2.08%) and MTNN (-1.34%).

    FOREIGN EXCHANGE

    The Naira exchange rate remains unchanged to close N306.90/$1 as against Friday’s position.

    The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N362.50, traded high at N364.00 and eventually closed at N363.22 representing a 0.06% appreciation as against last Friday’s closing position. A total of $780.95 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

    MONEY MARKET

    Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 14.64%, representing a 1.79% appreciation against last Friday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 13.86%, representing a 1.71%appreciation against last Friday’s closing position.

    The NASD market closed higher at the end of today’s transactions, as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 717.26 points against Last Friday’s index. Similarly, the Market Capitalization closed at N515.31 billion. Likewise, market activities measured by aggregate volume and value rose by 19,058.65% and 1,440.72% respectively. Investors traded a total of 509,620 units of shares valued at N6,970,200 in 14 deals.
