New Decade, New Paradigm

Nigeria’s audacious goals for the last decade are well articulated in the Vision 20:2020 blueprint. These include but are not limited to:

  • To be amongst the top 20 largest economies in the world (currently ranked 27th; $449bn)
  • To achieve GDP growth above potential GDP (3.1%) and population growth (2.6%)

It is difficult to judge the last decade as a success. However, the current administration is determined to make fundamental and structural changes. The new goals for this decade are people-oriented, specific and targeted. These include lifting 100million Nigerians out of poverty but the specifics on the execution are still unclear. That notwithstanding, Nigerians are split between being optimistic and skeptical about the economic prosperity for all in this decade.

In this edition of the LBS Breakfast session, Bismarck Rewane and the FDC Think Tank put the old decade in perspective and the new decade under scrutiny.

It promises to be an interesting & challenging read!
