Local Bourse Nosedives by 2.24% as COVID-19 Cases in Nigeria Rises

    consumer goods Stock market halts two days downtrend, gains 1.04%

    At the close of Friday’s trade, the local bourse All Share Index (ASI) rebounded by 0.54% to close at 22,198.43 points on renewed bullish activities even as the Exchange recorded 18 gainers as against 13 losers.

     

    Consequently, the year to date loss of the NSE ASI declined to 17.3%. Bellwether stocks such as GUARANTY, MTNN, CAP, JBERGER, DANGCEM rose by 1.64%, 3.52%, 8.33%, 6.28% and 0.54% respectively.

    Hence, the NSE Banking, NSE Insurance and NSE Industrial indices rose by 0.24%, 0.37% and 0.19% respectively.

    However, the volume and value of stocks traded declined by 27.83% and 27.81% to 0.38 billion units and N3.42 billion respectively. Meanwhile, NIBOR moved in different directions; while NITTY declined for most maturities amid sustained buy pressure.

    In the OTC bonds market, the values of FGN bonds were mostly flattish; however, FGN Eurobond rose for most maturities tracked amid buy pressure.

    FOREIGN EXCHANGE

    The Naira at the official window on Monday closed at 360.00/$1, representing a 0.28% appreciation Friday’s position.

    The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N380.55, traded high at N382.00 and eventually closed at N380.75, representing 2.35% depreciation against Friday’s closing position. A total of $501.03 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

    MONEY MARKET

    Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 6.93%, representing a 1.63% appreciation against Friday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 6.00%, representing 1.20% appreciation against Friday’s position.

    NASD OTC MARKET

    The NASD OTC market on Monday closed higher as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 690.98, against Friday’s closing position. Similarly, Market Capitalization closed higher at N507.57 billion, against Friday’s position. Consequently, the aggregate volume and value increased by 548.23% and 4,719.66%, as investors traded a total of 472,305 volume of shares, valued at N20.37 in 19 deals.
