Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has described those opposed to the renaming of Dananacha town to Kwararafa were ignorant of the history of the Jukun people.

Governor Ishaku who spoke when a delegation of people from three newly created chiefdoms in the state including Kwararafa paid him a thank-you visit, said Dananacha has no place in the history of the Jukun people.

He said the level of ignorance displayed by those opposed to the name change is the reason he is unhappy with the decision to drop history subject from the nation’s school curriculum.

He explained that the present-day Kwararafa was the seat of the Kwararafa empire before it was moved to Wukari and noted that it will a great injustice to allow those not familiar with the history of the town to give it a name has no relationship with.

Governor Ishaku said Dananacha is the name of a particular type of yam seedlings brought to Kwararafa from Onitcha and wondered how that could become the name of a town.

He thanked the delegations from the three chiefdoms for coming to thank him and urged them to work for peace always.ome the name of a town that had played a significant role in the history of the Jukun people.

He assured them of his determination to ensure rapid development of the state but noted that such determination could be impaired by the crisis.

The three chiefdoms represented at the event are Kwararafa, Bika and Sansani.
