Ogun Govt Releases N500,000 to Trade Associations, Artisan Groups

In a bid to further enhance rapid economic growth in Ogun State as well as ensure the wellbeing of its citizenry, the State Government has released the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira as subvention to Trade Associations and Artisan Groups.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, Mr Ganiyu Hamzat at a 4-day workshop organised by the Ministry in conjunction with Ogun State Trade Council in Abeokuta, marking the maiden edition of World Trade Day with the theme, “Artisanship and Entrepreneurship Development: The New Normal in a Post Pandemic Economy” said, the fund would improve socio-economic development.

Abiodun stressed that it was the desire of the present administration to strengthen the two groups through the Ministry, which serves as a bridge between government and the people. He added that they were veritable vehicles for achieving economic growth of any given society, imploring them to spend the fund judiciously.

In his contribution, Director of Commerce, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Olalere Opaleye, expressed dissatisfaction on the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had brought set back to the global economy, urging all entrepreneurs to devise mechanisms that would aid their businesses in order to survive the test of time.

Opaleye maintained that the placement of goods on social media was also a way of exhibiting their product which could earn them maximum profit, as well as enhance the State and Nation’s economy in the post-pandemic.  

On his part, the Chairman, Ogun State Trade Council, Chief Bankole Simeon, appreciated the government for their support and success of the event, saying the groups would not relent in their efforts towards contributing to the development of the State.

In their remarks, participants at the workshop, Mr Sakirudeen Odunlami and Mrs Folayimi Adufe, commended the State Government and the Ministry for the actualisation of the seminar, stating that the subvention would go a long way in assisting them in their respective businesses
