After receiving approximately 20,000 applications in eight days, Nigerian Breweries Plc, organizers of the Gulder Ultimate Search, commenced the regional screening in Enugu, Abuja and Lagos.
Every season, the show holds regional screenings where contestants who will make it to the screen are selected. For the 2021 season, 40 contestants will be selected for the next stage of the final selection that will make it to the GUS camp to compete for the over N50 million grand prize.
The regional screenings began in Abuja and Enugu, while the final screening was held in Lagos on Thursday, September 16 and Friday, September 17, 2021.

The screening was only open to those who registered to be part of the show before the application closed on Sunday night, September 12, 2021. Those who registered online to be part of the show, and passed the initial online screening stage received invitation messages to the regional screening at their selected location during registration.
The screening was packed because thousands of people applied for the show. Organisers said they received approximately 20,000 applications before the registration closed.
GUS candidates were asked to go with all the essentials from water, Glucose drinks, power banks, and comfortable shoes that ensure optimum performance in the tasks.
By participating in the screening, GUS hopefuls gave organisers the right to use their images, recorded interviews, videos, photographs and other information provided for the purpose of the GUS publicity, broadcast, marketing or projection of any of its brands.
Participants also underwent extensive medical tests to ascertain their physical and psychological fitness to participate in the show.
In addition to that, applicants’ swimming, core fitness and skills were also put to test.
Success at the regional screening is not a guarantee that the candidate will be selected to further audition or to participate in the show. It is just the preliminary round to be selected for the next audition phase.
