Mesfin Tasew Bekele has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines. He will take over for former CEO Tewolde Gebremariam, who stepped down earlier this week due to health issues.
The leading airline explained in a press release issued yesterday that Bekele’s appointment took effect on March 23rd, 2022.
Mr. Bekele has nearly four decades of airline management and operations experience. He has been with Ethiopian Airlines for 38 years, having started with the company in 1984. His expertise includes aircraft maintenance, procurement, capacity building, corporate strategic development, and corporate leadership, among other things.
He graduated from Addis Ababa University, where he earned both a BSc. and an MSc. in Electrical Engineering. He also has an MBA from the Open University in the United Kingdom.
It is now expected of him to use his experience to help propel the leading airline’s growth.
