Dr Lawan Yusuf, the state’s Commissioner for Education, announced the closure while speaking to reporters in Dutse, Jigawa state. He cited a security threat as the reason for the closure.

According to Yusuf, the schools were closed on Wednesday morning after the state received intelligence about possible school attacks across the country, particularly in border states.

Media reports state that schools in Jigawa’s capital, including boarding schools, have been closed and that students have been freed to go back to their homes.

The report further detailed that officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, were seen patrolling schools in the state capital of Duste.
