The National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS) has retract statement on environmental deredation of Segilola Resources company in the aspect of Gold mining in Ijesha land, Osun State.
Recall NANS earlier issued a statement threatening to <span;>cause serious unrest within the region following the <span;>failure and poor monitoring of the mining activities within Ijesha land.
However in a recent update made available to BrandSpur Nigeria, NANS Zone D coordinator, Comrade Adejuwon Emmanuel Olatunji said, “following the release on the activities of Segilola Resource Operating Company in the Iperindo Area of Osun State which we solely believe is causing environmental degradation on the community, we have received calls from well-meaning and eminent Nigerians. While some have tried to lampoon the position of the association, some have commended our action, which, according to them will make government look more into the areas of gold mining which is already causing an existential threat in areas where it’s been practiced.
“We want to state categorically that we did not aim at damaging the image of the company or to bring them to disrepute. Our position is clear and it even goes beyond Segilola Resource Operating Company. We only seek for clarifications from the company for us to know if truly they are licensed by the government and how their operations are been done in order to avoid a situation whereby the community will be consumed.
“However, we want to state for the whole world that the management of the Company has reached out to the leadership of this noble association and has acknowledged the issues we raised while also agreeing to meet with us in order to see and observe the environment and necessary documents to show that they have the backing of the government. They have also promised to give us receipts of the CSR been done by the Company since its founding.
“We want to intimate the teeming Nigerian students population that we shall communicate everyone accordingly after we must have observed the activities of the Company in days to come”.
