Two new paid subscription tiers for the microblogging website X (formerly known as Twitter) have been announced by Elon Musk, the platform’s owner.

Musk tweeted about this on Friday.

Musk claims that while the first tier offers a more affordable subscription with all features, it does not do away with advertisements. The more expensive second tier offers an ad-free experience.

At the moment, X’s premium web plans start at about $8 a month, or $84 a year, and display about 50% fewer ads.

Premium in-app subscriptions, on the other hand, cost $11 a month or $114.99 a year for iOS and Android.

Numerous features that are not included in the basic X plans are included with premium subscriptions.

The blue checkmark that users with active Premium subscriptions have on their accounts is a feature that is frequently connected to verified accounts on social media networks.

Furthermore, Premium subscribers have early access to new features prior to their general user base release, and they can edit their tweets for up to an hour after they are posted.

Since then, Twitter users have responded to Musk’s latest development in a variety of ways. Some have expressed worry that the platform was moving toward a pay-to-speak model. Others proposed adding a third tier that ensures unrestricted viewing and promises against shadow banning or covert censorship.
