The review of energy tariffs for Band A customers will be going up, according to some of Nigeria’s Distribution Companies (DisCos), on Wednesday

Backstory

The rapid upward revision of electricity pricing was mandated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in April. According to Musiliu Oseni, the vice chairman of NERC, just 15% of electricity users will be impacted by the increase.

He stated that as a result, power distribution companies (DisCos) would be permitted to increase the price of electricity from N68 to N225 per kilowatt-hour. Nigerians were critical of the decision.

However, the distribution firms declared a tariff cut on May 6. Customers in Band A would now pay N206.80/kwh instead of N225/kwh, according to the distribution firms, who announced the cut at the time.
