The Engage Nigeria project, a transformative initiative aiming at educating 8,000 students with skills for the creative industry, is launching its second cohort in partnership with Google and the Creative Industries Initiative for Africa (C.I.I.F.A.).

As part of the 2023-launched Skill Sprint initiative, Engage Nigeria aims to provide 20,000 Nigerian women and youth with essential digital skills. With a wider audience and new collaborations, this national initiative keeps up its support of the nation’s emerging creative economy. 6,000 creatives from all around Nigeria will gain from this cohort.

Engage Nigeria continues to offer thorough training in music business and production, event planning and management, cinematography and videography, animation, graphic design, and content creation. This builds on the success of its inaugural cohort, which saw over 2,200 participants receive invaluable training and mentorship.

By taking a comprehensive approach, participants are guaranteed to be well-equipped to succeed in the cutthroat creative market. Enhancing students learning experience and career possibilities, the programme also offers networking opportunities with industry experts and guidance from seasoned professionals.

The creative industry in Nigeria is a thriving, expanding sector that makes a major economic contribution. Nigerian artists are leaving their imprint on the world stage, from Nollywood’s global impact to the emergence of Afrobeats.

By equipping participants with the abilities and information required to succeed in a variety of creative areas, the Engage Nigeria course makes use of this potential.

This cohort’s relationship with the GOYF neighbourhood Digitech Hub is a noteworthy expansion that brings the project to the active Eti-Osa 02 neighbourhood in Lagos.

Respected member of the Lagos State House of Assembly for Eti-Osa Constituency 02 and a major proponent of the scheme, Hon. Gbolahan Olusegun Yishawu, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with C.I.I.F.A to bring the Engage Nigeria programme to our constituency. This partnership will unlock opportunities for our youth and provide them with critical skills indispensable to excel in the creative industry. It is a monumental stride towards fostering economic growth and innovation in Eti-Osa constituency 02 specifically and Lagos State at large.”

Continuing, the Founder of C.I.I.F.A., Godwin Tom, had this to add: “Our mission at C.I.I.F.A is to empower the next generation of creative professionals in Africa. Partnering with GOYF Community Digitech Hub allows us to reach more young talents in Eti-Osa 02, providing them with the tools and knowledge to succeed in the creative economy. We are grateful for the support from Google.org in making this possible.”

“Digital technologies are not just tools, they are catalysts for endless possibilities. Through these platforms, our young talent can emerge as key contributors to the digital economy,” the substantial potential that Olumide Falegan, Manager, EMEA Music & Culture at Google SSA, sees in Nigerian youth was stated.
