Under the auspices of the Ibom Innovative Network (IIN), a group of innovators in Akwa Ibom State have determined that technology and quick innovation hold the key to solving Nigeria’s present environmental and economic problems.

BrandSpur technology news and information reports that Amanda Etuk, the Chairman of the group of innovators, stated at a press conference held in Uyo over the weekend that while the current business environment in the nation makes it nearly impossible for companies to survive, with the help of technology, research, and industry, businesses will not only survive but thrive.

She had this to say: “Technology, startup enterprise, and rapid innovation will pull Nigeria out of the current economic slope she has found herself. The tech landscape in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, is poised to transform a nascent ecosystem into a resilient, thriving, and innovative powerhouse for what is now known as “Africa’s New Tech Destination.

“We note that the operating landscape in the country and the region is almost unbearable for businesses to survive. However, as innovators, we are consistently finding better ways of getting things done with technology, research, and industry. While we note the tough economic climate, we are also celebrating the remarkable achievements that Ibom Innovation Network has recorded through Akwa Ibom Tech Week and her other ecosystem-wide programmes and interventions,” she added.

During his remarks, IIN President Hanson Johnson said that Akwa Ibom has become a centre for digital enthusiasts and experts. He highlighted that the region’s developer ecosystem has grown at a pace of 29.7% per month since March 2023, which is comparable to Lagos’ development rate.

To stimulate businesses to draw investors and build a robust innovation ecosystem in the state, Johnson urged for government support through investments in infrastructure, education, and research in addition to tax breaks, grants, and regulatory frameworks.

Additionally, he urged innovators to cultivate resilience by concentrating on long-term fixes, broadening their sources of income, networking, and exchanging knowledge with the community.

Further speaking, he said: “Innovators should focus on sustainable solutions, diversify revenue streams, and embrace agility. Networking and knowledge-sharing within the community foster resilience.”
