To enhance project management procedures throughout 45 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state, the Lagos State Government has partnered with the Project Management Institute (PMI) of the United States.
Tuesday at the State House in Marina, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was overseen by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The goal of the agreement is to maximise resources and expedite the 1,830 active capital projects in Lagos.
This program is a component of the state’s plan to improve project implementation to increase efficiency, lower hazards, and improve citizens’ quality of life.
The partnership’s timeliness was underscored by Governor Sanwo-Olu, considering the obstacles presented by worldwide economic shocks and elevated material costs. To guarantee project delivery on schedule, he emphasised the necessity of strategically allocating resources and confirming project management techniques.
As Sanwo-Olu pointed out, At this crucial juncture, politicians are finding it difficult to mobilise and carry out initiatives that will raise the standard of living for their constituents. In light of the recent global upheaval and its effect on economic growth, it is a challenge today. Long-term project planning is becoming more and more challenging as a result, but choices must be made in this challenging environment.

Continuing, this collaboration with PMI is ideal for confirming our plans, assisting us in allocating resources where they are most required, and guaranteeing that the results of our investment are realised on schedule. It will improve the efficiency of our project executing MDAs and broaden their understanding of project performance and execution. The relationship, in my opinion, will increase professional competence and capability in the public sector’s project management.
However, the PMI team, headed by Mr. George Asamani, Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Project Implementation and Monitoring Unit (PIMU) of the State Government signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
According to Asamani, the partnership will provide the state with training, knowledge sharing, and cutting-edge capabilities to assist them deliver projects with quality assurance.
According to Mr. Olusegun Sanwo-Olu, Executive Assistant to the Governor on the Project Implementation and Monitoring Unit, PMI’s five decades of experience will accelerate effective management and capacity building following the highest standards of excellence.
Furthering, he outlined the advantages of the partnership, such as improved project management techniques that allow for more timely, within budget, and scope delivery.
