
The Airtel Africa Foundation announced that, as part of its goal to equip African undergraduates with digital and technological skills, it will donate roughly $500k to support the education of ten African students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in India.
According to the foundation, “The Airtel Africa Fellowship Programme” would improve educational possibilities for students, particularly those from varied socioeconomic backgrounds in Africa, and place the students at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in Zanzibar.
BrandSpur brand news reports that the scholarship recipients will be referred to as “Airtel Africa Fellows,” according to the foundation, and they will get living costs in addition to $12,000 in tuition, which is based on the Institute’s four-year course fee schedule.
Continuing, students from 14 African nations—Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger, Chad, Congo B, Gabon, Madagascar, and Seychelles—are intended to be supported by the fellowship.
According to Lela Mohamed Mussa, Zanzibar’s Minister of Education and Vocational Training, IITM Zanzibar is leading the way in technical education in the area with its fellowship program.
Mussa states that giving financial aid to students from Tanzania and the rest of the continent who are acing the IITM Zanzibar screening and test procedures so they can attend top-notch schools is a major priority for them. She praised the Airtel Africa Foundation’s contribution, saying that it will strengthen the ministry’s efforts in this regard.
The Head of the Airtel Africa Foundation, Olusegun Ogunsanya, stated that the organisation is happy to collaborate with IIT Madras Zanzibar to give young Africans access to high-quality education.
According to Ogunsanya, the foundation was established to promote financial and digital inclusivity throughout the continent, as well as a strong emphasis on environmental preservation and education.

IIT Madras Head, Veezhinathan Kamakoti stated that the university is dedicated to building a top-notch campus in Zanzibar.
