The UBA Time Capsule and a Tribe Photo Wall were unveiled yesterday by United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Africa’s global Bank, as part of celebrations honouring its 75 years of providing exceptional services and creating a worldwide impact.
The purpose of the UBA time capsule is to preserve artefacts or information from the past 75 years so that future generations can explore and learn more about the history of this global financial institution, BrandSpur banking and finance news desk reports.
From its humble beginnings as a small office in Lagos, Nigeria, to its expansion into 20 African countries and the world’s four major financial capitals—London, Paris, America, and Dubai—it has grown into a financial behemoth.
Speaking at the unveiling and ribbon-cutting event at the UBA Head Office on Thursday, Oliver Alawuba, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA, also stated that the bank intends to increase its income base from the present $20 billion to $20 trillion over the next 25 years.
He declared: “We are driven by innovation in UBA, and what we have achieved now is minimal to what we plan to achieve when UBA is 100 or 150 years old. As of now, UBA is in 24 countries, and in the next 25 years, we will see UBA in 100 countries.
“Our current revenue base which stands at $20bn, we hope to increase to over $20tn in the next 25 years, and in that time, we also hope to be one of the Top 10 banks in the whole world, because we know that the future of the world is Africa, and the future of Africa is UBA,” he added.
He, however, clarified that the Time Capsule and the Tribe’s Photo wall were installed to honour the commitment, relationships, and inventions the bank has made over the last 70 years as it continues to serve more than 45 million clients globally.
