Heirs Insurance Group, the fastest-growing insurance group in Nigeria, has stated that the recipients of the 2024 Essay Championship, reportedly got an 8 million scholarship.
The finalists, their parents, and representatives from the schools were invited to an all-expense-paid event given by the Group, where the winners were declared at a grand celebration at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Hephzibah Chidi, a student from Rivers State’s Seacrest Preparatory, is the 2024 Essay Championship winner.
The erudite winner from Seacrest Preparatory in Rivers State wowed the judges with her winning essay and presentation of “The Story of My Hero.” She also received first place and an N5 million scholarship. Hephzibah Chidi’s school, Seacrest Preparatory, received an N1M grant to fund an educational project in addition to her N5M scholarship.
The other winners are Mariam Raheem from Isador Model School in Lagos State, who took third place with a N1 million scholarship, and Pemisire Owolabi from Quest College in Oyo State, who placed second and got a 2 million scholarship.
Continuing, nearly 5,000 junior secondary school students from across the country competed in this year’s championship, and all of them displayed extraordinary ingenuity and original ideas.
The Championship demonstrates Heirs Insurance Group’s steadfast dedication to advancing financial awareness and supporting education, BrandSpur national news stories report.
But each entry was carefully assessed by a distinguished panel of academic experts, chaired by a professor of English. The top three finalists were selected to compete in the grand finale from among the top 15 essays, which proceeded to the next stage of evaluations.
Throughout the grading process, Deloitte & Touche was engaged as an independent Quality Assurer to guarantee the highest standards of fairness and transparency, ensuring a free and fair evaluation for each participant.
Niyi Onifade, MD/CEO of Heirs Life Assurance and Sector Head of Heirs Insurance Group, gave a speech during the ceremony, saying: “At Heirs Insurance Group, we understand that education is not only a pathway to a better future but also a catalyst for financial empowerment. Through this Championship, we are nurturing young talent and bridging the financial literacy gap, fulfilling our purpose of improving lives and transforming Nigeria.”

The Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Charles Odii, as well as the event’s hosts; Niyi Onifade, MD/CEO of Heirs Life Assurance and the group’s sector head; Tony Aniemeke, MD/CEO of Heirs Insurance Brokers, were among the notable guests who witnessed the awarding of all winners.
However, one of the main initiatives of Heirs Insurance Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which aims to improve education for the coming generation, is the Heirs Insurance Essay Championship. The Championship also showcases up-and-coming talent and, via longer financial literacy courses, helps parents and kids get closer to insurance.
