At a special two-day event held on September 26 and 27, 2024, at Harbour Point, Lagos, Nigeria, The Macallan celebrated its 200th anniversary by releasing its second edition of The Tales of The Macallan for the first time in Africa. A remarkable series of rare single-malt Scotch whiskies, Tales of The Macallan Volume II is the second edition.

It is a notable single malt that was distilled in 1949 and bottled in 2022, commemorating 73 years of age in the extraordinary oak cask. The two-day program included orchestral concerts, storytelling, art, and brand immersion.

More than forty high-net-worth people (HNIs) from Nigeria’s media and business sectors attended the event. These esteemed guests were given access to a unique examination of the idea for The Macallan, as well as their superb selection of whiskies and rich historical background.

“We are incredibly excited to unveil Tales of The Macallan Volume II to our Nigerian consumers. This exceptional whisky is a true celebration of The Macallan’s rich heritage, craftsmanship, and legacy. It offers a unique and unforgettable experience that reflects the artistry behind each bottle. We are confident that our whisky connoisseurs in Nigeria will deeply appreciate the complexity and masterful fusion of flavours that define this rare single malt. We look forward to sharing this extraordinary journey with them,” stated Hammed Abebiyi, Senior Brand Manager at Edrington Portfolio, as he shared his excitement about the unveiling.

The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, Euan Kennedy, crafted the Tales of The Macallan, which narrates the narrative of Alexander Reid, the Macallan pioneer, and highlights the legacy of whisky-making that has been passed down through the years, BrandSpur brand news reports.

The whisky is a stunning piece of art, housed in a handcrafted Lalique crystal decanter and presented in an amazing almanac. This creative work of art chronicles the life of Alexander Reid, the man who founded The Macallan, following his career as a farmer, teacher, and distiller in each of its chapters.

This decanter is exceptionally well-made, even beyond its elaborate decoration. Enchanting drawings by well-known British illustrator Andrew Davidson adorn its 800-page pages. The crimson One, Alexander Reid’s original Scots moniker, is reflected in The Tales of The Macallan Volume II, which features exquisite shades of bronzed oak and subdued crimson tones that are the result of patient maturing.

Rich scents of forest fruits, fragrant woodsmoke, old oak, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla pods, faint herbal overtones, and treacle caramel permeate the single-malt Scotch whisky. Flavours of black cherries, plum jam, dark chocolate orange, almond and custard pie, ginger sponge with clove notes, sweet woodsmoke, and a trace of loose tea leaves are all present on the palate. There will be a lingering sweetness and smokiness due to the long and nuanced finish.

Continuing, this year, the Macallan is commemorating its 200th anniversary with a range of thoughtfully chosen events held all across the world. The Macallan’s commitment to improving customer experiences in the African market is highlighted by the publication of Tales of The Macallan Volume II in Lagos, Nigeria, which also demonstrates the importance of Nigerian whisky lovers to The Macallan.

Along with working towards attaining net zero emissions across all global operations by 2045, The Macallan has also developed several efforts to reduce packaging waste, support net-zero ambitions, and encourage responsible sourcing methods.
