Uber has revealed that it will be launching a new digital assistant to help its drivers make the switch to electric cars (EVs). The assistant, which will be powered by cutting-edge software and created as part of Uber’s objective to promote sustainability and reduce emissions, will be made available to drivers in the US beginning in early 2025.
It will first concentrate on providing answers to inquiries on electric vehicles, such as suggestions for the best models to buy or information on locations for charging. Uber has confirmed that it will respond to drivers depending on their location, city-specific government incentives, and personal preferences.
The new function is designed to deliver customised help. Drivers will be able to communicate with the assistant via text or voice commands once it’s included in the Uber driver app, BrandSpur technology, and information news reports.
Uber plans to introduce a mentorship program in addition to this digital assistant to further promote the transition to electric vehicles. It is anticipated that this mentoring program will assist drivers in comprehending the advantages and disadvantages of owning and driving electric cars.
Incentives will be provided to seasoned EV drivers who educate novice drivers who are unfamiliar with the vehicle by imparting their knowledge.
The Uber Green option, which gives users the choice of hybrid or completely electric cars, is already offered in more than 180 cities. There are also plans to provide an EV-only option in 40 cities worldwide, including well-known cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Paris.
Uber has committed $800 million to assist its drivers in making the complete switch to electric vehicles by 2040 as part of its sustainability initiative. According to the firm, the number of Uber drivers switching to electric vehicles is increasing quickly; drivers in the US, Canada, and Europe are switching at a rate that is five times higher than that of ordinary drivers.
Progress has been particularly good in London, where almost thirty percent of Uber miles are currently powered by electricity. Uber has also added additional incentives for top-performing food delivery platform merchants, providing $50,000 awards to help businesses implement sustainability measures, to further support environmental activities.
Furthermore, Uber intends to hold pop-up events in different cities where consumers may have a test drive of well-known electric cars like the Rivian and Lotus Eletre models.
