For 30 women in Imo State, this year’s August Meeting came with something more than celebration. They went home with equipment to help them start or strengthen their businesses, courtesy of Three Crowns Milk.
The dairy brand, owned by FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, also used the gathering in Owerri to provide women with practical lessons on health, finance and agriculture as part of its wider women-focused initiative.
The intervention was part of Three Crowns Milk’s activities at the 2026 August Meeting, a major annual gathering that draws women from communities across South-Eastern Nigeria. Brandspur Brand News reports that this year’s event took place on Saturday, August 15, at Umuorii Field beside Umuorii Women Hall, St. Michael Catholic Church, Umuorii, Owerri.
For the beneficiaries, the business equipment could make a difference beyond the day’s festivities. It gives them resources they can put to work as they seek to build small businesses, earn income and contribute to the financial needs of their families.
The empowerment was one of the highlights of an event that brought together women from Umualum, Umuorii, Umuoba, Okwu, Owalla, Owaelu, Umunahu, Orji, Amakohia and Akwakuma.
Three Crowns Milk also created opportunities for the women to interact with the brand through product sampling, games, dairy education and other activities. The focus, however, extended beyond promoting milk to conversations around healthier living and the well-being of mothers.
The event attracted the attention of the Imo State Government, with the First Lady, Chief Barrister Chioma Uzodimma, represented by Mrs Nduka Ijeoma, wife of the Managing Director of the Anambra Imo River Basin Development Authority.
Nollywood actress Ebele Okaro was also present, bringing entertainment and a touch of celebrity appeal to the gathering.
The August Meeting itself carries significance for women in the region. It is a time when women return, reconnect with their communities, strengthen relationships and discuss issues affecting their families and communities.
That made the setting particularly relevant for an initiative centred on women. Rather than limiting its participation to brand visibility, Three Crowns Milk used the occasion to combine celebration with information and practical support.
Marketing Director of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, Maureen Ifada, said the company sees women as central to the strength of families and communities.
She said the company would continue using Three Crowns Milk to create platforms where mothers can be celebrated, supported and encouraged to make healthier choices.
The financial and agricultural sessions also addressed areas that can directly affect a woman’s ability to support her household. For women running or hoping to start businesses, access to knowledge and basic equipment can be as important as the opportunity to showcase their products.
Marketing Manager of Three Crowns Milk, Chioma Otisi-Igwe, also spoke about the success of the activation, although the full details of her remarks were not provided.
The initiative reflects a growing effort by consumer brands to make community engagement more meaningful by linking marketing activities with issues affecting their consumers’ everyday lives.
In Owerri, that approach put mothers at the centre of the celebration. The women came together for their annual meeting, but 30 of them left with equipment and knowledge that could help shape what happens after the celebration ends.
