Airtel Africa Announces Dinesh Balsingh As New CEO, Following Carl Cruz’s Resignation

After Mr. Carl Cruz resigned, Airtel Africa Plc named Mr. Dinesh Balsingh as the new CEO of Airtel Networks Limited, better known as Airtel Nigeria. A statement from Airtel Africa Plc revealed that Mr. Cruz is leaving the role to return to the Philippines.

Additionally, the board of the top telecom and mobile money provider’s Nigerian subsidiary, announced that Mr. Alfa Belgore is stepping down as chairman of the board after ten years in that position.

BrandSpur telecom and IT news desk report that the company, which operates in 14 African nations, is replacing him with Mrs. Awuneba Ajumogobia, a Non-executive Director of Airtel Africa, who is supposed to provide a dispassionate assessment of strategy, performance, and resource matters. She has extensive experience in a variety of Nigerian industries, including assurance, taxation, finance, and consulting services.

Mr. Belgore’s years of service and commitment to Airtel Nigeria’s key role in the Nigerian telecom sector have been valued by the telco.

In response to the appointments, Mr. Sunil Taldar, the CEO of Airtel Africa, stated: “Mrs Ajumogobia’s experience and contribution to the Airtel Africa Plc board will be extremely beneficial for Airtel Nigeria, and the Board looks forward to working with her.

“Mr Balsingh’s deep telecommunications experience and strong operational execution, combined with his knowledge of the Nigerian market, will be instrumental in further supporting our corporate purpose of transforming lives across Nigeria,” he added.

Continuing, after being appointed CEO of Airtel Tanzania in 2022, the new CEO returns to Nigeria and has a wealth of experience in the telecom sector. He has a great deal of knowledge in the Nigerian telecom industry because he was the Chief Commercial Officer of Airtel Nigeria before relocating to Tanzania.

Mr. Balsingh has worked in the telecom sector for more than 24 years. He started with Hutchison Essar in 2000 and later moved to Airtel India in 2006 as a marketing director before joining Tata Docomo in 2011. In 2013, Mr. Balsingh became the Marketing Director of Airtel Nigeria, and in 2018, he became the Chief Commercial Officer.
