The 20th anniversary of the MTN Foundation will be celebrated with several activities aimed at highlighting the organization’s contributions to Nigerian communities. The commemorative banquet is planned for November 14, 2024, in Lagos, while the anniversary conference is set for November 6, 2024, in Abuja.
The Foundation’s dedication to sustainable development and community involvement will be highlighted at these gatherings, which will bring together important stakeholders from the public and private sectors. It has been at the forefront of corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects in Nigeria since its founding in 2004. It was among the first businesses in the nation to set up a specific foundation for overseeing corporate social responsibility initiatives. When the Foundation was formally launched in May 2005, MTN Nigeria Communications PLC promised to donate up to 1% of its profit after taxes (PAT) to support a range of initiatives that would enhance people’s lives throughout the country.
The Foundation has contributed NGN 29.4 billion to worthwhile initiatives in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the last 20 years. The Foundation has completed 50 unique initiatives, touching over 31 million people over more than 1,023 project sites in Nigeria. Numerous Nigerians have benefited greatly from these programs, which have addressed important issues including health, education, youth empowerment, and the arts and culture.
Along with updated purpose and vision statements, the Foundation will also debut its new logo as part of this event. As it looks to the future, this rebranding initiative represents a renewed dedication to its basic principles and objectives.
MTN Foundation Executive Director, Odunayo Sanya remarked on the journey to date and conveyed her excitement for the events to come, saying: “This anniversary is both a celebration of our impact in Nigeria and a commitment to do more.
“We have always believed in the power of collaboration and community engagement to drive meaningful change. As we gather to reflect on our journey, we look forward to engaging with our partners and stakeholders to explore new avenues for sustainable development,” Sanya added.
Continuing, the purpose of the forthcoming anniversary events is to promote communication between executives from different industries, fostering teamwork that can result in creative answers to urgent societal problems. In addition to panel discussions and keynote addresses on youth empowerment and national development, the conference will include interactive sessions aimed at motivating attendees and exchanging best practices in community development and corporate social responsibility. Through a variety of educational initiatives, the Foundation has played a significant role in advancing digital literacy among Nigerian youth in addition to other core areas. The Foundation has given thousands of young people the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital environment by using technology as an empowerment tool.
BrandSpur telecom and IT news report that in addition to celebrating two decades of impact, the anniversary conference and dinner are anticipated to be exciting events that lay the groundwork for upcoming projects that promote resilience and community growth.
The MTN Foundation aims to spark discussions that result in workable solutions for Nigeria’s most urgent problems by bringing together a variety of stakeholders.
