Ten creative startups have been chosen by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE) to get funding from the N2.8 billion Google AI Fund.
By fostering talent development and assisting with solutions that tackle regional issues, the Google.org funding seeks to promote AI-driven innovation throughout Nigeria.
The investment, which is intended for Data Science Nigeria, will support the Ministry’s ongoing AI-driven efforts to upskill young people and underemployed and unemployed Nigerians, with an emphasis on AI education and skill development. This award is a component of Google.org’s larger $5.8 million pledge to help Sub-Saharan African digital skills initiatives.
BrandSpur business and economy news reports that the following ten startups were chosen for the AI Fund:
- Lendsqr: Uses AI to streamline lending processes, enabling lenders and borrowers worldwide.
- Rana Energy: AI-powered energy management from Rana Energy maximises sustainable power for underserved consumers.
- CDIAL AI: In underdeveloped areas, CDIAL AI provides smooth text-to-speech and speech-to-text AI capabilities in 13 languages.
- SaaSPro Health: AI-powered medical records with specially designed features for Nigerian physicians.
- Bunce: This is an AI-powered platform that helps businesses centralise and customise their interactions with customers.
- Trade Lenda: Uses AI to streamline credit analysis for MSMEs, making borrowing more accessible.
- Farmspeak: Uses AI to help livestock farmers with climate control and illness detection.

- Towntalk: Uses AI to give African communities contextual security insights so they may make well-informed decisions.
- ProDevs: Uses AI-driven pre-classification and job matching to link international businesses with screened African tech talent.
The significance of this support in propelling Nigeria’s digital transformation was highlighted by Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, innovation, and Digital Economy: “This support from Google is a testament to our commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in AI innovation.
“By leveraging Google’s expertise and resources, we are creating opportunities to equip Nigerians with the skills they need to thrive in the global digital economy. This is a major step forward in our journey towards a more inclusive and innovative future for all Nigerians,” Dr. Tijani added.
Understanding the Program
With the help of the N2.8 billion Google.org funding, Data Science Nigeria will collaborate with the Federal Ministry’s AI talent development initiatives, which include:
The goal of the DeepTech Ready Upskilling Program is to equip 20,000 young Nigerians with cutting-edge technical skills in data science and artificial intelligence, preparing them for jobs in this quickly expanding industry.
The Experience AI Program aims to inspire the next generation of AI innovators by providing 25,000 educators with the resources and tools they need to educate 125,000 youth about AI.
To ensure that Nigeria’s AI policies are created and applied responsibly, the Government AI Campus Program aims to upskill public officials and policymakers in AI policymaking.
By conducting the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS) Workshop earlier this year and subsequently releasing the National AI Intelligence Strategy., the Ministry laid the groundwork for AI integration in Nigeria.
This plan seeks to use AI to boost economic expansion, strengthen government, and improve the lives of all Nigerians. This solid foundation will be strengthened by Google.org ‘s new support, solidifying Nigeria’s standing as the continent’s leader in AI innovation.
The Ministry and Google also revealed the chosen recipients of the AI Fund, which was created by the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) in partnership with Google, marking a major advancement in the AI ecosystem.
Each chosen business will receive ₦100 million in capital from the Fund, in addition to up to $3.5 million in Google Cloud Credits to aid in the scaling of their ideas.
These entrepreneurs will also have access to Google’s top-notch AI tools, receive guidance from Google’s AI specialists, and have the chance to network with partners and innovators around the world.
By concentrating on industries like healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance, businesses will be essential in leveraging AI to solve regional issues and promote sustainable economic growth.
Google’s dedication to the innovation environment in Africa was explained by Matt Brittin, Head of Google for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa: “Across Africa, entrepreneurs are harnessing the power of technology, including AI, to address large-scale societal challenges. Google remains committed to supporting these innovators, helping them expand their impact across the continent and beyond. Our work in Africa has always been about unlocking the digital economy’s benefits for more people, and this collaboration continues that mission.”
This project is in line with a larger analysis that emphasises AI’s economic possibilities in Nigeria. Recent research by Public First suggests that by 2030, artificial intelligence might boost Nigeria’s GDP by up to $15 billion.
However, this initiative aims to harness that potential by providing local innovators and businesses with the necessary tools, resources, and training to utilise AI, hence highlighting the importance of this partnership for Nigeria’s digital future. It expands upon Google’s 2023 pledge of N1.2 billion to empower 20,000 Nigerians through economic development and digital skills initiatives.
