CNN and Globacom commemorated the 15th anniversary of the multiplatform series African Voices Changemakers at an event in Lagos by taping a special version of the show live.
Yemi Alade, a Grammy nominee, performed her hit “Tomorrow” and was interviewed by host Larry Madowo during the evening. The talk between Madowo and Alade will be included in a special episode of the show that premieres at CNN International on November 30.
Prominent figures from Nigeria and beyond, including prior African Voices guests, cultural icons, business leaders, influencers, and entrepreneurs, were present at the event. The evening was filled with entertainment, conversation, and an inside look at the filming process. African Voices Changemakers, one of CNN’s most enduring and popular series, chronicles the lives of African artists, athletes, creatives, and thought leaders who are leading the way in transformation throughout the continent.
Continuing CNN’s premier sports program, World Sport features segments and special African Voices Playmakers programs that highlight Africa’s top athletes. In addition to providing on-air material, African Voices Changemakers is accessible on CNN’s digital and social media channels, including a playlist on Apple Music and social-first My Drive videos. African Voices Changemakers is exclusively sponsored by Globacom on all platforms.
According to Phil Nelson, Executive Vice President of CNN International Commercial (CNNIC): “15 years of programming is a huge landmark, and I’m pleased to celebrate it in Lagos with our longstanding commercial partners at Globacom; I thank them for our ongoing collaboration. This anniversary event for African Voices reaffirms CNN’s commitment to the series and to showcasing the richness, diversity, and dynamism of Africa on the global stage.”
Globacom stated that the program has highlighted the outstanding accomplishments of African leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, athletes, and sportswomen—all of whom are changemakers—and amplified voices that might not have otherwise been heard. Among the artists and notable attendees were Mrs. Bella Disu, Globacom EVC, who represented the Chairman; Mr. Phil Nelson, CNNIC EVP; Mrs. Omolola Akpata-Owolabi, MD of OJ&T; and Country Representatives of CNN.
According to Ashok Israni, the Chief Marketing Director of Globacom, who read a statement available to BrandSpur telecom and information news desk, on behalf of Mrs. Bella Disu, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the firm: “This sponsorship is more than just brand alignment; it has been a profound expression of our shared commitment to the transformative power of storytelling. And in partnering with CNN, we have helped ensure that Africa’s voices—its dreams, its challenges, and its triumphs—are broadcast to the world.”
On Saturday, November 30, the African Voices Changemakers special episode debuted.
