By the end of 2024, Morocco had surpassed its tourism objective by bringing in 17.4 million tourists, two years ahead of the 2026 plan.

The latest figures, which were issued today to BrandSpur digital news platform by Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism, show a 20% rise in comparison to 2023, or around three million more visitors. The ministry credited the encouraging trend to both foreign visitors, who brought in 8.8 million visitors, and Moroccans living overseas, who brought in 8.6 million visitors.

Additionally, the development was a 35% increase above the 2019 figures. Speaking about the encouraging trend, Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor emphasized that it is a reflection of the “considerable progress our country is experiencing” under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.

According to the Ministry: “This exceptional performance is the result of targeted investments by our government in this vital sector for our country’s economy, as well as the constant mobilization of industry professionals.”

She also congratulated all the private and public stakeholders that helped make it happen. One of the main pillars of Morocco’s economy has been the travel and tourist industry.

To revitalise the industry, the ministry and the Moroccan Tourism Office (ONMT) have launched several initiatives aimed at drawing tourists both naturally and through alliances with international airlines and travel agents. By 2026, Morocco has long aimed to welcome 17 million visitors. Reaching the goal two years ahead of schedule is a sign that the nation will be able to draw in more million visitors in the years to come.

As Morocco prepares to strengthen its leadership by co-hosting the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, the country’s goal is to attract 26 million tourists by that year.
