25 years of connection, resilience, memories and belief in Nigeria
As the Y’ello Street Museum winds down in Lagos, MTN Nigeria is reflecting on a remarkable 25 year journey that has unfolded alongside the lives, aspirations and transformation of millions of Nigerians.
Created to mark MTN Nigeria’s Silver Jubilee, the immersive museum brought together memories, artefacts, technology and cultural moments from the company’s journey, giving visitors an opportunity to experience how much has changed since MTN commenced operations in Nigeria in 2001.
But the museum was never simply about looking back. It was about remembering.
Visitors were invited to search for items connected to MTN’s 25 year history, turning the experience into a journey of discovery. Familiar objects became reminders of first calls, changing phones, evolving technology and moments when connectivity opened new possibilities.
The message was simple: before we look ahead, we should appreciate how far we have come.
MTN Nigeria‘s journey has taken place against the backdrop of a country that has experienced significant economic and social challenges. Businesses have faced rising pressures, uncertainty and changing market realities, with some unable to survive.
Yet, through these difficult periods, MTN Nigeria continued to believe in Nigeria’s potential and remained committed to the market.
That belief mirrors the resilience of Nigerians – entrepreneurs building businesses in difficult times, young people creating opportunities, families staying connected and communities adapting to a rapidly changing world.
Over 25 years, MTN has become part of these everyday stories.
The company’s anniversary is therefore more than a celebration of corporate longevity. It is a celebration of shared progress.
The Y’ello Street Museum captured this spirit by showing that behind every device, product and technological milestone are human experiences. A call made, a business started, an opportunity discovered, a family connected.
As the museum closes, its memories remain a reminder that progress is often best understood by looking back at where we started.
MTN Nigeria’s first 25 years have been about building connections. The next chapter is about deepening their impact.
As Nigeria looks towards the future, MTN Nigeria remains committed to connecting people, businesses and possibilities and supporting Nigerians to achieve more.
25 years of memories. 25 years of connection. 25 years of believing in Nigeria.
MTN Nigeria and Nigeria have come a long way. Together, the journey continues.
