
The tech behemoth Google recently commemorated the 20th anniversary of Google Maps, a navigation app that has grown to be a vital resource that enables more than 2 billion monthly users to travel the world with confidence.

Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, the Communications and Public Affairs Manager at Google West Africa, commented on the 20th anniversary of Google Maps, stating that it has changed from a simple mapping tool to a dynamic platform.
According to Kola-Ogunlade, Google Maps has given more than one trillion miles of directions in the last 20 years, demonstrating its importance in influencing users’ perceptions of the globe. He claimed that 500 million people annually contributed to the platform’s maps, which included over 250 million places and businesses.
To guarantee that users have access to accurate and current information, Google Maps also receives 100 million updates every day. Nigerians have benefited greatly from Google Maps’ ability to let them explore new areas and navigate with assurance.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Google revealed the best spots in Nigeria, emphasising well-liked options for eateries, coffee shops, tourist destinations, parks, and museums.
According to Google, Flowershop Cafe and Oliver Cafe are the most reviewed cafes in Nigeria, while Mega Chicken and Farmcity Lekki are the most reviewed restaurants.
Dimplediva Scent and Oniru Private Beach are two of the best-reviewed tourist destinations, Kola-Ogunlade said in response.
According to him, the National Museums in Benin and Lagos are two of the most visited museums, and City Park in Abuja and Muri Okunola Park in Lagos received great reviews. He asserts that Nigerians may explore new locations, find hidden treasures, and navigate their surroundings with confidence by using Google Maps.
However, Google Maps’ influence on community involvement, navigation, and discovery will only increase as it develops further.
