Intending to give its users a lighter, quicker, and easier self-care experience, Airtel Kenya has released Airtel Lite, a new Progressive Web App (PWA).
Airtel affirmed in a statement available to BrandSpur telecom and information news, issued on February 10 that users of Airtel Lite would experience zero data use. The new software provides offline access to essential services without using data bundles, just like the My Airtel app does.
However, the statement partly reads: “With smartphone users being increasingly mindful of data consumption and accustomed to USSD services, Airtel Lite is set to transform how customers engage with Airtel’s wide range of products and services.”
While Airtel Lite and the My Airtel self-care software have similar features, Airtel Lite is designed to effectively support devices with limited storage and processing capability.
The statement reads: “Lack of adequate storage space on phones is a big issue; Airtel Lite is designed to ensure it requires zero storage space on phones.”
The app’s fast-loading interface is another important feature. It was created to satisfy users who prefer to easily access essential functions without having to wait for a lot of data to load. All of the main consumer services that can be accessed by USSD will be covered by the Progressive Web App, including checking balances, recharging, purchasing bundles, sending money, purchasing goods, paying bills, and seeing transaction histories.
Ashish Malhotra, Managing Director of Airtel Kenya, made the following statement at the launch: “At Airtel Kenya, we are constantly striving to address our customer needs in ways that add real value to their lives.
“Our research revealed that many Kenyans still face challenges such as limited storage space and data usage in the use of their smartphones. Airtel Lite is our innovative solution, designed to remove these barriers and ensure a seamless, accessible digital experience for all,” the MD added.
As the nation transitions to a totally digital economy, Airtel stressed that products like Airtel Lite are essential in promoting the uptake of digital channels. It emphasized how Airtel Lite acts as a vital link for consumers who have historically depended on USSD services by providing a portable and easy-to-use substitute, easing the shift to quicker, more dynamic digital services.
Beyond convenience, Airtel added, the app supports the larger objective of financial inclusion by making digital payments and mobile banking easily accessible, especially in underprivileged and distant areas.
Continuing, the Managing Director had this to say: “Airtel Lite is a gateway to digital empowerment for millions of Kenyans. By ensuring that every customer no matter their device, can access our services, we are making sure that no one is left behind in the country’s digital transformation journey.”
All Airtel Kenya users can now access Airtel Lite by going to https://lite.airtelkenya.com/ via the browser on their phones.
