At a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), revealed that more than N22 billion in loans have been given to at least 200,000 Nigerian students.
Sawyerr pointed out to BrandSpur national news desk that the application deadline for 2023–2024 is February 21, 2025. He added that the application for 2024–2025 will be open from February 22.

In December of last year, the Federal Government announced that N110 billion had been approved for students at public tertiary institutions across the country.
Sawyerr reported to the House of Representatives Committee on Student Loans and Higher Education Financing in November 2024 that N12 billion had been issued to students as loans by the NELFUND.
