MTN Exits Afghanistan, Embraces ATOMA As New Umbrella

After 17 years, MTN leaves Afghanistan and turns over its operations to M1 Group. ATOMA is the new name for the mobile service.

After completing the transfer of its operations to the Beirut-based M1 Group, MTN has formally left the Afghan market. MTN will no longer be present in Afghanistan; instead, the corporation will now operate there under the new brand name, ATOMA.

When MTN first began offering services in Afghanistan in 2007, it held a 40% market share and was the top mobile provider in the nation.
