Over the next three years, Amazon plans to invest €1.4 billion (roughly $1.63 billion) in the Netherlands, marking its largest financial commitment since it started doing business there in 2020.
The investment, which will run from 2025 to 2027, is intended to grow Amazon Web Services (AWS) as well as its retail division, the company claims. The money will be used to build logistics upgrades, AI-powered tools, and infrastructure to bolster Amazon’s position in one of the most cutthroat e-commerce markets in Europe.
“An important growth market for us” is how Eva Faict, Amazon’s Country Manager for the Netherlands and Belgium, put it. She clarified that the action is a component of Benelux’s expansion plan, which aims to expand Amazon’s presence in the area.
The Country Manager went on to say: “These investments will allow us to better serve our customers and improve our services.”
Continuing, Amazon currently has about 1,000 employees in the Netherlands, a market that is still dominated by Bol.com, a local competitor owned by Ahold Delhaize. The latest investment is widely seen as a push to close that gap and make Amazon a stronger competitor through enhanced Prime services, improved logistics, and better localised offerings.

Dutch small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) will receive some of the funding to help them optimize their operations on Amazon, BrandSpur business and economy news desk reports.
According to Faict, the business is creating artificial intelligence tools to help business owners with pricing, customer service, and product listings. She stated that Amazon wants to empower sellers with technology that increases efficiency and transparency, adding that: “Our goal is to build trust among entrepreneurs and consumers.”
At the moment, 4,500 Dutch SMEs sell on Amazon.nl, making up about 60% of all platform sales. It is anticipated that the new AI initiatives will assist these companies in expanding their customer base both inside and outside of the Netherlands and in scaling more efficiently. To improve customer convenience, Amazon also intends to increase its nationwide logistics presence by adding more pick-up locations, same-day delivery choices, and new package lockers.
The action follows Amazon’s announcement earlier in October of a $1.16 billion investment in Belgium, highlighting the company’s resolve to expand its operations throughout Europe.
In addition to retail, Amazon is expanding its cloud and AI infrastructure to help AWS customers and spur data services innovation.
