Lagos, Nigeria — Genesis Energy Group has restated its commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s energy transition through stronger private-sector investment, policy-driven reforms, and strategic partnerships that expand access to clean, reliable power.
The announcement was made at the 2025 Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit in Lagos, where the company served as Headline Sponsor and joined government officials, financiers, and sector leaders to discuss pathways for sustainable electricity under the theme “Powering Nigeria through Investment, Innovation and Partnership.”
In his keynote address, Akinwole Omoboriowo II, Chairman and CEO of Genesis Energy Group, said the Electricity Act 2023 has ushered in clarity and confidence for investors by enabling states to create their own electricity markets and formally recognising off-grid and mini-grid systems as viable, bankable solutions. According to him, these reforms mark the beginning of “NESI 2.0 — a decentralised, competitive energy ecosystem built on policy certainty and private capital.”

He highlighted the company’s real-world impact, including a $500 million partnership with the Katsina State Government to deploy solar PV and battery storage solutions. The first phase now powers the state’s General Hospital entirely with solar energy, while the Government Complex operates on a hybrid system. The initiative has already delivered over ₦3 billion in annual cost savings and improved energy reliability, demonstrating how state-led clean-energy projects can stimulate jobs, strengthen local economies, and enhance public infrastructure.
Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, underscored the need for deeper public–private collaboration, noting that stable electricity supply cannot depend solely on the federal government. He encouraged states to partner with investors to accelerate generation, transmission, distribution, and off-grid solutions—particularly for underserved and rural communities.
The summit, organised by Informa Markets with the support of the Federal Ministry of Power, remains one of West Africa’s leading platforms for dialogue on clean-energy integration, investment mobilisation and achieving a resilient energy mix by 2030.
