Nestlé has announced a £28 million investment in its Dalston factory in Cumbria, boosting production capacity for its Nescafé Frothy Coffee range and upgrading the site’s manufacturing technology.
The investment includes a new £17.5m four-storey mixing plant featuring advanced systems that improve efficiency, enhance recipe precision and cut manual handling by 80%. The company is also installing two new packing lines worth £10.7m, capable of producing up to 60,000 sachets per hour and compatible with recyclable packaging such as Mono PP laminate.
Richard Watson, CEO of Nestlé UK & Ireland, said the project reinforces the company’s commitment to UK manufacturing, noting that modernising the Dalston site will support local jobs, strengthen long-term production capacity and improve sustainability.

Factory manager Ian Pipes added that the upgrade will enhance product quality and create a safer, more efficient environment for employees.
The Dalston site produces a range of beverages including Nescafé Cappuccino, Nescafé Latte, Coffee Mate, and Starbucks-branded latte mixes, and sources fresh milk from local dairy farms through its long-standing partnership with First Milk.
