System timeouts and unsuccessful transactions have historically plagued the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration window.
The ePIN purchase, a level of Nigerian bureaucracy, marks the beginning of the university journey for millions of Nigerian teenagers, not through an exam.
However, Interswitch is presenting itself as the best solution for these payment issues for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) cycle.
The Infrastructure: Education Payment as an API
To manage the influx of millions of applicants, Interswitch is launching its entire stack, including the Interswitch Payment Gateway and Quickteller (web and app). The intention is to make purchasing an ePIN as easy as purchasing airtime by integrating directly into the official JAMB e-facility portal.
Interswitch is relying on its high-volume capacity to eliminate last-minute congestion in a nation where network problems can mean the difference between receiving a profile code and skipping a year of school.
The process is traditional fintech with the following guide:
- Create Profile Code: The candidate uses JAMB to do the heavy lifting.
Choose Interswitch: Go to Quickteller or use the gateway. - Instant Delivery: Unlike traditional brick-and-mortar centres, which use a “come back tomorrow” service model, the ePIN is delivered instantly.
According to Interswitch’s Divisional Head of Growth Marketing, Olawale Akanbi who spoke on the challenges, he said: “We understand how critical this process is for families. By providing trusted channels, we’re helping candidates complete their registration with confidence.”
This is a strategic data and volume play, not just a matter of corporate social responsibility. Interswitch is effectively integrating the upcoming generation of digital natives into its ecosystem by processing ePINs for the 2026 cohort. It is a relief to the pupils.
BrandSpur banking and finance news desk reports that this action strengthens Interswitch’s position as Nigeria’s operating system for critical services. The Quickteller’s move may be the most significant exam preparation these students do this year as the registration window closes.
