Wema Bank, Nigeria’s oldest indigenous bank and pioneer of Africa’s fully digital banking platform ALAT, has revealed plans for its 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) Grand Event, scheduled for 4th March 2026.
Themed “When Women Gain, We Grow”, the event aligns with the global 2026 IWD theme, “Give To Gain”, and seeks to emphasise the transformative impact of supporting women. The celebration aims to foster a culture of inclusion, recognising the value of women in society and driving gender equality.
Brandspur Banking News Desk reports that Wema Bank’s MD/CEO, Moruf Oseni, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to women’s inclusion, stating, “A society where women are left out is one that is crippled, and as a Bank, we have made it a priority to never relent in providing tailored opportunities for women, celebrating their growth and supporting their journey.” He highlighted the SARA by Wema initiative, launched in 2019, as a cornerstone of the bank’s ongoing efforts to promote the 5th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on gender equality.
The 2026 IWD programme will bring together women from diverse sectors and everyday life to network, share experiences, and access opportunities. Key highlights include the SARA Gives to Empower Her Award, which offers grants to women positively impacting others, the He For She Award, recognising male employees supporting women beyond financial contributions, and the Wema Knight Gives initiative, aimed at giving back to women across Nigeria. Additionally, the event will feature the launch of the Wema Bank Girl Child Journal, a reflective collection of insights and advice from 80 contributors dedicated to inspiring the next generation of girls.
