UniCloud Africa Limited has appointed Dr Krishnan Ranganath as its new Chief Executive Officer as the company accelerates the rollout of sovereign cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure across multiple African markets. The appointment marks a strategic leadership shift as the pan-African cloud platform deepens its focus on digital sovereignty and enterprise-grade infrastructure on the continent.
Dr Ranganath, popularly known as Krish, assumes the role at a time when UniCloud Africa is deploying compliant, low-latency cloud solutions in six countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, and Mozambique. The company has also confirmed plans to expand operations into Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Ivory Coast as demand for locally hosted digital infrastructure grows.
Brandspur Brand News reports that UniCloud Africa operates under the mission “One Cloud, One Africa,” positioning itself as a sovereign alternative to offshore cloud providers. The platform is designed to support governments and enterprises with scalable, resilient infrastructure tailored to Africa’s regulatory, economic, and environmental realities, while addressing data residency and compliance concerns.
Speaking on his appointment, Dr Ranganath described UniCloud Africa as a central player in the continent’s evolving digital economy. He said the company is committed to deploying fully sovereign infrastructure across Africa, with a focus on building strategic partnerships and scaling next-generation cloud systems that can support artificial intelligence, data-intensive workloads, and mission-critical services.
He further disclosed that UniCloud Africa plans to deploy graphics processing units, GPUs, selectively across markets based on demand and commercial viability. While acknowledging challenges linked to AI adoption and the transition to green energy, he noted that the long-term opportunities for Africa’s digital ecosystem outweigh the constraints, particularly through collaboration with public and private sector partners.
The company’s co-founder and outgoing Chief Executive Officer, Ladi Okuneye, who will remain on the board, said the leadership transition reflects UniCloud Africa’s next growth phase. According to him, Dr Ranganath’s technical depth, regional experience, and understanding of Africa’s digital infrastructure landscape position him to steer the company through its expansion agenda.
Before joining UniCloud Africa, Dr Ranganath served as Regional Executive for West Africa at Africa Data Centres, where he played a key role in developing and scaling digital infrastructure solutions across the region. His background includes extensive experience in operational leadership, cloud platforms, and large-scale infrastructure deployment.
With the new leadership in place, UniCloud Africa says it remains focused on strengthening Africa’s digital independence by delivering secure, locally hosted cloud services that support economic growth, innovation, and cross-border digital integration across the continent.
