In an official statement released on Sunday, NAFDAC confirmed that its Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate received a complaint about fake oral care products already in circulation. Upon investigation, surveillance officers traced the products to a retail outlet where two variants—Colgate ActivGel 100g and Colgate Herbal 100g—were being sold without valid registration.
Brandspur Brand News reports that the shop owner informed the investigative team that the products were purchased from a door-to-door sales representative, but no proof of purchase or any documentation was provided to verify the source of the supply.
The alert, widely shared on social media under the hashtag #NAFDACAlert, has generated over 29,000 views and hundreds of engagements. NAFDAC further advised all distributors and retailers to desist from sourcing personal care products from unverified itinerant sales agents and to always demand proper invoices.
Authorities have not ruled out wider circulation of the counterfeit products and have called on citizens to report any suspicious toothpaste brands to the nearest NAFDAC office immediately.
