YouTube generated more than $40 billion in global advertising revenue in 2025, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s largest digital advertising platforms despite forecasts showing slower revenue growth amid increasing competition from TikTok and Netflix.

New industry analysis indicates that YouTube’s advertising business expanded to $40.4 billion last year, while total platform revenue exceeded $60 billion for the first time. Although advertising income continued to rise, the pace of growth moderated compared with previous years and is expected to slow further through 2026 and 2027.

The report also highlights intensifying competition for global advertising budgets as marketers increasingly allocate spending to platforms with stronger social commerce capabilities and expanding connected television offerings, Brandspur Brand News reports.

YouTube continues to maintain one of the largest digital audiences globally, attracting approximately 2.6 billion monthly users who now spend nearly one hour each day on the platform. Audience engagement has increased significantly, with connected televisions emerging as the fastest-growing viewing device, particularly in the United States.

Short-form video remains another major growth driver, with YouTube Shorts recording more than 200 billion daily views worldwide. The format is becoming increasingly attractive to advertisers as monetisation improves and user engagement continues to expand.

Despite slowing revenue growth, YouTube remains a preferred advertising platform for many global marketers because of its extensive content ecosystem spanning entertainment, music, education, gaming, podcasts and news. Industry research also ranks the platform among the most trusted digital advertising environments for brand safety.

The report further notes that younger audiences continue to drive commercial performance, with Generation Z demonstrating strong purchasing behaviour after exposure to advertising content, particularly through YouTube Shorts.

Looking ahead, YouTube is expected to remain a central player in the global digital advertising market. However, sustaining long-term growth will depend on its ability to strengthen performance advertising capabilities, attract a larger share of television advertising budgets and compete effectively with rapidly expanding rivals in the evolving online video ecosystem.
