
Nigerian agritech startup Fishcluster has secured approximately $1 million in commercial commitments for its artificial intelligence and underwater robotics platform designed to improve fish farming efficiency, marking an early milestone as the company emerges from stealth mode.
The startup is targeting one of the aquaculture industry’s biggest cost drivers, fish feed, which can account for as much as 75% of production expenses. Fishcluster’s technology combines artificial intelligence, underwater robotics, sensors and computer vision to monitor fish behaviour and water quality in real time, helping farmers optimise feeding, reduce waste and improve productivity.
The company’s integrated platform includes an autonomous underwater robot, an AI-powered operating system and a smart feeding solution that work together to analyse pond conditions and automate feeding decisions, Brandspur Brand News reports. The system tracks critical indicators such as oxygen levels, water temperature, pH, ammonia and fish movement, enabling farmers to detect potential problems before they result in significant losses.
Fishcluster said it has received commitments for about 1,000 units from four large-scale commercial fish farming operators in Nigeria. At an estimated selling price of ₦1.5 million per unit, the commitments represent roughly $1 million in potential revenue as the company prepares to roll out pilot deployments. A major Nigerian commercial bank has also partnered with the startup to support financing for customers adopting the technology.
Founded by Samuel Eze, the startup aims to address longstanding challenges in aquaculture by replacing manual monitoring methods with continuous, data-driven oversight. The company believes its platform can help reduce feed waste, improve fish survival rates and enable technical experts to oversee significantly more fish ponds through remote monitoring and predictive analytics.
Beyond improving farm operations, Fishcluster plans to build a data infrastructure that could strengthen access to financing for fish farmers by generating reliable production records and operational insights. As demand for technology-driven agriculture continues to grow across Africa, the company is positioning artificial intelligence and robotics as practical tools for increasing efficiency and sustainability in the continent’s aquaculture sector.
