Facebook Launches Seller App And Free Identity Verification For Marketplace Users In 2026

Meta-owned Facebook has introduced a dedicated Seller app for frequent Marketplace users and unveiled a free identity verification feature as part of its latest effort to strengthen social commerce and improve trust across its platform.

The new Seller app enables active Marketplace merchants to manage product listings, communicate with buyers and monitor sales performance through a standalone mobile application instead of relying on the main Facebook app. Existing listings, conversations and transaction history automatically sync with Facebook Marketplace, while new products created in the app are published directly to the marketplace. The application is currently available on Apple’s App Store for users aged 18 and above in the United States.

According to Brandspur Brand News, Facebook Marketplace now records more than 430 million monthly listings and serves over 1.1 billion active users, making it one of Meta’s largest commerce platforms and a key driver of user engagement.

Meta also announced a free Facebook Verified identity confirmation system designed to help users prove they are genuine individuals. The feature requires users to complete a video selfie verification, which is matched against existing profile photographs before a verification checkmark is displayed across Marketplace, Facebook Dating, Groups and personal profiles. The company clarified that the new verification badge differs from the paid Meta Verified subscription and is intended to improve user confidence, although it does not completely eliminate fraudulent activity.

In addition, Facebook is testing an immersive full-screen video experience that opens automatically when users launch the app. The feature will initially be introduced in selected international markets with strong video consumption before expanding to the United States next year, while users will retain the option of switching back to the traditional news feed interface.

The latest rollout follows Meta’s recent launch of Forum, a standalone application focused on Facebook Groups, and Pocket, an AI-powered coding application. The technology company also plans to introduce artificial intelligence tools within the Seller app to assist merchants with automatically generating product descriptions and other listing content.

The new products arrive as Meta intensifies competition in the fast-growing social commerce market, where platforms such as TikTok Shop and Whatnot continue to attract buyers and independent online sellers through integrated shopping experiences.
