Cadbury Nigeria Plc has ushered in a new chapter in its leadership, appointing respected economist Dr Rasaq Adedoyin Salami as Chairman of the Board following the retirement of long-serving board leader Adedotun Sulaiman.

The appointment, which took effect on August 3, 2026, comes alongside the nomination of Mrs Uwa Osa-Oboh as an Independent Non-Executive Director, as the consumer goods manufacturer refreshes its board at a time when businesses are adapting to a rapidly changing economic environment.

For shareholders, employees and investors, the changes signal continuity rather than disruption. The company is betting on experienced hands to guide its strategy, strengthen governance and steer the business through Nigeria’s evolving consumer market. According to Brandspur Brand News, the appointments were disclosed in a notification submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).

Dr Salami is no stranger to economic policymaking or boardroom leadership. An economist with more than three decades of experience, he currently heads KAINOS Edge Consulting and has advised governments, financial institutions and multinational organisations on economic policy and business strategy. His career has also included serving as Chief Economic Adviser to former President Muhammadu Buhari and Chairman of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council.

Beyond public service, Salami has worked with global institutions including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation and the United Kingdom’s former Department for International Development. He is also a long-serving faculty member at Lagos Business School, where he teaches and researches macroeconomic policy, manufacturing competitiveness and financial sector reforms.

His appointment follows the exit of Adedotun Sulaiman, whose association with Cadbury Nigeria spanned almost 17 years. After joining the board as a Non-Executive Director in 2009, he became Chairman in 2020 and oversaw the company through one of the most challenging periods for manufacturers, marked by inflation, foreign exchange volatility and rising production costs.

Cadbury also strengthened its board with the appointment of Mrs Uwa Osa-Oboh, an experienced corporate executive whose career spans investment management, legal practice and business development. She currently serves as Head of Corporate Development at Capital Alliance Nigeria and is expected to contribute to the company’s governance and long-term strategic planning.

Welcoming the new appointments, Managing Director Ayman Fahmy Gaafar praised Sulaiman’s leadership and contribution to the company over the years. He said the board is confident that Salami’s blend of academic, economic and corporate experience, alongside Osa-Oboh’s business expertise, will help position Cadbury Nigeria for its next phase of sustainable growth.
